The extra cable from the rear camera was cabled up and hidden under the sound proofing material under the passenger feet area?

I then used the Multi Meter to check which wires from the head unit only came on with the ignition on ACC mode and went off when key out. Not picture here as was tricky with little play in the radio harness wire (sorry)

Plugged the rca camera lead in and placed the Screen on top to see where my sat nav will now move to. Will have a look at position and wiring of this next as don't like the wire on show from the sat nav.

Then rather than use the 3M pad that came with the screen as I may move this I used these to secure it.

So then, Switch on !!! and place something behind the car

View from screen.

and view from back showing rear camera lights.

The screen had a protective cover on so took this off also... I'm more than happy a) the fact it worked and b) I did not blow anything up !! I can move the angle of the camera so will play with this as I use it. I could even look at fitting it more central now I'm happy it all works.

Best thing I have bought for this is the Multi meter great little bit of kit and easy to use. Given I'm no electrician I would have never attempted this on my last car.

Well Happy for £35 all in, screen, camera, connectors, etc.

^ Hello

Not sure what you mean, I have moved the camera angle in a couple of the pictures above so it may look wrong?

The camera is off set as set under the number plate.

This is the view when I moved the camera angle down to show the step, is seems to show the correct side with the number plate on show?

I will have a proper look over the weekend if I get chance always busy doing stuff Smile

When you look from behind the camera in the line of sight, the spare wheel is on the left. On the screen it is on the right, so yes I guess it is flipped from left to right. Most screens have a function to flip the image so you can correct for this, dependent wether you use the camera as a front or rear camera. Cheers, Vincent

Nice write up.

How much adjustment is there in the lense angle? 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone
2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone
2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW

If anyone has a 2DIN HU or 1 DIN with monitor you could hook a cam straight up to that too.

I've never fitted one due to considering a Blackvue, but that's been on a back burner for a while due to cost.
Pretty much anything with the yellow pre out video source can be interchanged.

What ever you fit the spare wheel often gets in the way of view.

The good thing with this little cam is the fact you can mount it into the plate light mount, of which is completely reversable I.e, body drilling isn't required and the plinth is cheap to replace.

Also got mine in yesterday, this thread really prompted me to get on with it.

Just need to find the connection for the reverse switching on the head unit so that it comes on automatically when reverse engaged.

I was initially worried about the angle from mounting it on the number plate light but find it gives great perspective as you approach a vehicle, I watch the bracket for the bike rack and comfortably get to about 2cm away when it looks like we are about to touch.

Will be careful with approaches at an angle until fully tested.

Great write up. I really need to get myself sorted with one. Trying to reverse up to anything another than a wall in my 130 is a nightmare. With no rear window and the tub wider than the body you loose sight of any car behind.

Hello

The camera lens can move 100 degrees, so I need to mess about with the view.

There is no option on the screen to change the 'flipped view' any idea how I can do this?

I've only used it a little over the weekend but already its useful,

The camera lens is on the left (near numberplate) athough as stated the view on the screen looks to show

Oooooh, something else for the list of wants now. Once I have the single din stereo, the will be next.

Out of interest, is it solely visual? Or is there a reverse-sensor type beep too?

Hello

Just visual, My wife cars beeps and the beep gets louder as you get near, I find that a bit annoying. Even more so if your towing and reverse without and over ride switch Smile

Some cameras have a sensor that beeps also as part of kit so depends what you want I guess.

Used it today in a parallel park bay and it worked very well. Wall along side me and car behind.

Update just to show how it works, today parallel park against a wall with car behind.

So picture of car showing one behind.

Then view from inside the car looking back in a Defender its pretty hard to see any normal sized car once its right behind you and close.

Then view from camera screen, I could back my truck up right up to this with far more confidence than just using the towbar as a sensor Smile

I May move the camera angle slightly to see what views I can get but happy with it Smile

I just ordered a camera Smile

I have some aftermarket audible sensors in the shed, toying with adding them too. But like you say, the beeping can get annoying
