Freelander 1 V6
I've seen a V6 Freelander 1 that I quite fancy what would you think that I can realistically expect to get to the gallon? I'm aware of the usual issues with Freelanders and that the some V6's had head gasket problems is there anything else that I need to look at am I correct in thinking that there's two cam belts? This particular vehicle has supposedly got a full service history which I haven't seen yet so I don't know whats been done and when. It's a 3 door which I prefer over the 5 doors I know that they are the same length but in my mind the 3 door looks better,

Hello

Depending upon your use the 4 door is much easy, I'm guessing its an early one if 3 door, I had a TD4 sport premium back when they were out with a remap (150Bhp) that would do around 28 - 32 mpg. I enjoyed it, took the back hard top off and bought a canvas roof.

Is the v6 auto also?

I would guess low 20's to 25 on a run, its not going to be good Smile

The V6 was available as a 3 door and 5 door, both pre and post facelift models

There are actually 3 cam belts on the KV6, and they can be an absolute Censored to replace, most places will recommend an engine out job, as it takes a similar amount of time, but with no struggling

They also suffer from rattly Inlet manifolds, which makes it sound like it has top end issues

Fuel economy is likely to be mid-teens, to low 20's on a run

The gearboxes can be a weak point. Lack of regular oil changes take their toll, as well as uneducated garages taking out the wrong plug in the box to refill, which results in a loss of reverse gear

Thumbs Up

I wouldn't touch one, my partner bought a genuine 30k mile example 2 owner car which was immaculate. She had problems with the cooling system and it was suspected that one head gasket was on its way out, confirmed by the 2 RAC patrols which came to the rescue when the damn thing overheated again. One of the RAC patrols was ex Land Rover and he said the V6 never cooled adequately and head gasket failure was commonplace. if it is the head gasket then it may mean machining and you would have to do both heads which apparently is darned expensive. Got rid of it sharpish through the local auction.

Disco Mikey I read that article in LRO. I've had a look at the V6 and decided against it. As I said earlier I'm in no rush.

Keep getting asked if I will sell it, and how much I would sell it for

Don't think I can bring myself to get rid of it just yet Mr. Green

Brilliant fun

Had it down our local 1/4 (a legal one Thumbs Up ) and managed a 16.6s. There were a few Corsa VXRs that day, all running 16.3/16.4s. Surprised and upset a lot of people that day Rolling with laughter

That Fiesta was completely stripped out, bucket seats and a 1.7 Racing Puma engine. It just had the edge on me towards the end, as weight/aero takes over...

It's brilliant fun seeing drivers of their hot hatches not able to outdrag a 14 year old Freelander Rolling with laughter

As well as going on a diet in the summer, and an extra 15-20bhp Wink
