Universal dimmer module

Defender net - scenario, replaced instrument lamps with LED, would like to dim when lights on as have rigged to stay on when car is running for extra visibility.

is there a module which either detects its dark or based on the the lights (12v active) can dim instrument lights?

Yes there are, nevertheless many LEDs are not actually dimmable as they need a specific voltage threshold to strike up and illuminate. You may need to fit ballast resistors to achieve this. Best to buy a cheap potentiometer first and try it before spending time and money researching and procuring kit you may find won't work in the end. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

You can use an LED as a light sensor by reversing it's polarity. You can also make your own from component parts all available from RS Components....

A DRL controller will also do what you want to achieve by dimming when the lights are on, you could perhaps adapt one of these for your purpose? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
