On a serious note, does anyone know where we can get some? I'd be looking for some too.....might ask Urban, as I'm popping there tomorrow. They're blingtastic suppliers so might have some. Monsieur Le Grenadier

I wondered whether they may mark when tightened? Nothing worse than having some hairy mechanic scratching your nuts Laughing

Oh, that's worse than Carry On.

On the subject of nuts, Urban do black for £50 a set. I've asked if a 'set' means four wheels, just in case their generosity knows no bounds, but I fear £50 is per wheel....will let all know when I hear back. Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

With black nuts, please enquire how the colour is achieved. Paint or powder coated is liable to damage.

Anodised or chemically treated is less likely to be prone to damage.

just a thought.... whilst I was on the lovely Defender2 scottish highland trip, i thanked my lucky stars I had 16 inches of pure unadulterated alloy and not the 18 inches... As much as I love the bigger alloy aesthetically, I wondered if people had found the ride comfort was shocking in comparison both on and off road or if it wasn't noticeable etc?

Drove back from the UK on 18" Bowlers two weeks ago, 12hrs door to door, and then again last week on 16". Absolutely no difference whatsoever. I think the key is that the suspension is so soft (bouncy) anyway, not to mention these are off road 18" tyres which have a huge amount of depth over their sports/road biased cousins, that it would be impossible to tell. My wife's new TT's tyres cannot be more than a couple of inches thick, whereas the BFGs are double that. So, in essence they are as thick as a standard road car's tyres. In my opinion, if anyone is worried about the loss of comfort by going from 16" to 18", don't be. There are lots of other 'comfort' issues to address first Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

Have to agree here, never noticed any difference on my old 110 from 16 to 18. Its tyre wall size that's important and decides harshness of tyre ride (obviously suspension but that's not the question).

I have 19 inch on our X5 (hold the moans!) and diameter is 40mm and I hate it. They are purely road tyres because an X5 couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding. Its like a skateboard

Bit of advice would be much appreciated re this interesting thread !

I’ve been thinking of getting a set of Bowler’s for my 90XS. Was going to get the 16” x 7.5’s . . . but having read this thread I’m now wondering about maybe getting the 18” x 8’s instead ? . . . The reason I was going to get the Bowlers was for a set of “winter spec” road tyres – Nokian Hakkapeliitta’s probably being my first choice.

My question is, what is the correct size 18” road tyre to go for to get the same rolling diameter as you would get from a factory fit 235x85 16” on sawtooth’s or boosts ? . . . . I have been scrutinising all the lovely photos on this thread but just cant make out any of the sizes on the tyre walls !

Confused
