Misfire?
Cleaned the MAF sensor at the weekend. Bit oily.

Now I'm getting a misfire or at least one cylinder appears to be underpowered. When I start in the morning it's fine. The misfire comes on after around 15 minutes of driving.

Any ideas?

Could it be connected to the faint whiff of diesel I'm getting sometimes after a run? 1999 Td5 110 CSW

Could be, have you checked the red ECU plug for oil? Ingress can lead to a misfire. Easy job to replace the harness if needed.

Could possible be an injector issue,

I was getting pronounces diesel knock, not quite a misfire, and strong whiffs of diesel from the exhaust on idle. This turned out to be an issue with some injectors I've recently had reconditioned. 2003 Defender 90 Td5 CSW Belize Green - "Betty"

Thanks for the replies so far. Had a quick check of the red ECU plug yesterday and there was a fair bit of oil there. Drove the incandescent Zafira to work this morning (that was boring) and will pick up some contact cleaner and a new injector harness over the weekend.

Looking at the "how-to" guide - great find by the way - it just mentions replacing the harness in the rocker cover. How do you prevent oil ingress into the ECU plug from oil that's already travelling down the loom? 1999 Td5 110 CSW

Just clean out the red plug every few days for about a month or so. I put up a few Pics somewhere in this section of how I sealed the injector harness so no more oil should come down the loom again if you want to search for it. Ray

If its a TD5, also check the fuel valve regulator, notorious for leaking.

My local independent LR parts place has decided not to open on Saturdays any more. I cleaned the plug out anyway. While I was under the seat I removed the ECU to clean that properly and parked it on its end for an hour to see if anything came out. Nothing showed up on the paper towel so I'm hoping nothing has got into the unit itself. 1999 Td5 110 CSW

I had similar problem few years ago, and also fault codes in ECU showing electrical fault in injection circuit - open circuit.
When cold, it was running fine, but when the engine gets warm, it looses power and start vibrating.
Problem was simple - loos pin in one connector of injector loom, inside the engine head. I have removed the loom, bent a bit the connector pins and all is OK for aprox. 5 years. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo Smile

Yes, I had the same thing too. On removing the faulty loom I found an open circuit between the large plug and the connector on number 1 injector. New loom sorted it.

I treated the loom as a service item and changed it every couple of years - they were only £30-£40 and 30 minutes to change. Dave

Went for a run today, after cleaning the ECU plugs. Bit more power present but the misfire is still there, so a new loom it is. Diesel leak was quite apparent on Sainsbury's nice clean tarmac this afternoon. More investigation needed. It'll have to be next weekend though. 1999 Td5 110 CSW

Nipped outside in the dark to have a quick look. Fuel does appear to be leaking from the back of the engine on the driver's side. So it looks like it could be the FPR too. Had a quick look on eBay. Are the pattern ones OK? Or shouldI go for the repair kit? I'd rather spend £40 than around £160 for the OE unless these kits are total pants. 1999 Td5 110 CSW

hi, not hijacking the thread but looking to join in with advice / help, I too have a similar problem, cleaned red plug, checked ecu, replaced injector loom, still the same, have you got to the root cause yet, think mine might be an injector at fault, first thing in the morning loads of smoke and runs like a bag of spanners, then clears but with a misfire that comes and goes, does yours do the same thing ?

I see that adseybear, you had a fault like mine, have you resolved the injector fault, if so where did you get the injectors reconn'ed, can anyone recommend some one who recon's the blue top injectors, pref around Birmingham area
