Replacing rear lights with indicators
Following a recent mistake ordering clear lenses which can't be replaced on my Puma I'm looking to buy full clear units and then putting in a red bulb for the brake light.

Has anyone replaces rear indicator stop lights with these in a Puma 2.2 and know if the are all the correct size and figments?

I'm sure I tried something similar a few years back on the front. I tried to use the clear side lights as indicators. The black plastic mouldings were the wrong size and the lenses didn't fit. Don't think it'll work..

Sorry no, haven't come across this. Any farther South and I'll need to trade the Defender in for a Landing Craft Smile

I'm guessing you want different bulbs because the original red bulbs will show up too much in clear lenses? If so will these work for you?

Edit: my stupid iPad won't let me link it Evil or Very Mad on eBay type in silver stop and tail bulb in the search bar and there are a few sets. Ray

Did a test run today - removed a front indicator and both rear indicator and brake light.

So indicators are strait swaps - no problem.

The brake light has a different electrical plug figment - however using the brake light bulb holder/electrical plug into the indicator works Smile

So they can be used.

I replaced the fog light with a reverse light and a red fog bulb - it works but does show a little pink in daylight so the silver bulbs are a great idea and didn't think of this!

My car had clear lenses on the back, as brake lights, but when I tried to renew the bulbs they had a different pin location to the holder.

ie the red bulb

have off set pins where as the clear brake light bubs the pins are opposite.

With a bit of force I got the red bulbs to work but ended up with damaged bulb holders.

So now have reverted back to red lenses and clear bulbs.

I would be interested to see if you have found red bulbs that fit well in the LR bulb holders or found a bulb holder that holds the off set red bulbs.

I'm pretty sure I have it sorted, so when the bulbs come this week I will post pictures and links to everything I used.

Hopefully it all does Smile

Have you thought about the LED ones? I know RDX does clear ones and they are 'E' marked.

Kind Regards

I have but they are more expensive - This will cost a grand total of £25 vs £200.

Also i'm not a fan of the RDX clear ones as they have too much chrome and I like to keep things looking standard.

I would not recommend using these, I ordered those a couple of years ago and the ones I received had a short-circuit that blew a fuse.

Paddock replaced them for free, but the new ones were no better, they would not work at all.

The fix was easy, but they would stop functioning after some time once the bulb gets hot (like leaving the hazard on for too long), so I eventually ditched them and put the OEM back on.

You get what you pay for, that's a good example.

But your rear light also incorporate your brake lights.Which are FAR more important.

Those holders in the link in the OP's first post in the thread aren't genuine.
High possibility in my opinion they are Britpart as I remember the PN.
Bought a couple once and the lense fittings broke after taking out the box. Rolling Eyes

Never again, if you don't like RDX clear try Wipac.
The full rear isn't £200 more like £120

If someone rammed you from behind you'd have a lot more costs involved and I bet they'd make out those lights aren't legal clear with coloured bulbs in.
(Even though if 'E' marked technically they are even if colour isn't fit for purpose)

Lastly but not least they will appear pink what ever bulbs you try and use.
A lot of us have been there, done that and got the T shirt.

Personally I'd stick to OE colours or go LED only.

If you go LED, you can buy a complete kit or buy bit by bit as I did and build up the lot then fit.

Choice is yours ultimately but this is all the advice I can give.

**POST EDITED**

I too notice no Chrome in them, only reflector like headlights have anyway.

I've got RDX lights and don't recall seeing any chrome on them? Steve.

I don't think there is anything illegal about having a clear lenses and a red bulb, firstly my car has always passed the MOT with clear lenses and secondly I got pulled over a few weeks back for having "pink" brake lights because I had cheap red bulbs that were pink to start with and then got pinker and were pretty much white!

It was on the list to sort out list and then I was stopped so it moved up the list rather quickly. Anyway I asked if it was ok if I carried on and got some new red bulbs and he was fine with it. Even said he liked the look.#

I found the phllips bulbs were very red and when directly compared to a clear bulb in red lenses there was absolutely no difference. BUT as I said earlier getting a red dual filament bulb with the correct pin alignment isn't easy. Plus I fear that with heat the bulbs will start to go pink as the colour fades.

So I went with Red lenses until I find a suitable solution or save up for LED as I don't like getting pulled over it was only my second time in 23 years!
