Well, as well as providing invaluable protection for a long term "keeper", having a garage does make life a lot easier.
Today Wifey & I went for a 400Klm+ cruise in Gracie, no rain, so when We got home just get rid of a few bugs etc from the front of the car, then into the garage she goes, cover on, & she's ready for her next outing!

WELL, Wifey & I both have lived in England. England is VERY special to us. We'd both be happy to live there, but family etc now, children etc, make it impractical,...but we can still dream,...but We'd have to have a garage!

I do believe that cars should be in garages when not in use, as long as not put away wet, especially Defenders, which really do not appreciate living outside as we all know.

Luckily our very modest place, which was built circa 1960 has a double garage that will easily take the 90 and Golf, and the other oversized single garage houses the D3 and motorbike, plus some boxes!

I do feel very lucky and it will make it very hard to move one day, though I must say my daughters new house which is a modern 3 bed semi will (just) take their 90 in the garage, to my complete amazement. Rob

Thanks Ken, you're obviously a car dealer! I thought as much or might be a 'special' car storage!

LED lighting has come down in price, but will still be expensive to change but much cheaper to run! If you run lighting during the day then might be worth considering a PV array of the roof? As i understand it, if you use all the electric generated they still make economic sense. Just a thought.

"our cars sit on the drive..."

Ours too: we keep our ornaments in display cabinets or on shelves!

When I last looked in to it a few months back, the only real advantage of LED lighting was the longevity. Lumens/W is comparable to discharge lighting and depending on various things can come out worse.

Can't beat a draughty garage for drying cars, your typical concrete section garage is plenty draughty and will dry a car in no time.Sadly mine lives on the drive, not really got room for a carport either. Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

Good on you Pickles for looking after Gracie so well. I do similar with my brood & the old Defender & RRC get car covers, sheets & even an old doona on the bonnet of the Rangie. Hugh well he just gets used, and amazingly I haven't had to wash him yet:

And his other garage when in town, which is not very often, with his French girlfriend:
