Ok not been any updates for a while but work/time away means I haven't been able to play, however good news the order is in for a shinny new galv chassis

Finaly got some project time today, work is manic and shall continue to be so this is few and far between at the moment.
So today I got the engine up and mounted on my engine stand allowing it to be fully rotated, it was a little tricky with the engine stand moving about and the fact me and my mate did it as a two man lift but it fits nicely and definitely seems sturdy, With the engine on the stand I started to remove the mounting brackets,starter,alternator and the exhaust manifold. The manifold bolts all came out really easily with no snapped studs, I guess the 2 odd months soaking in penetrating oils did a good job. I then proceed to drain the engine oil and start with the cleaning of 30 plus years of grime and oil leaks. I had thought this but as this is the original engine I'd prefer to keep it in.

Finaly got some more time on the V8, today was time to start stripping and cleaning up the Wolf axles.
Stripped the axle down to a bare casing, inspecting the diff, drive shafts etc as I stripped it, the hubs have been donated to other vehicles so a new set will be added to the purchase list. Using a knotted wheel on the grinder I was able to remove most of the rust/paint now I just need to get into the nooks and crannies (might have to buy me a shot blaster )
Still the majority cleaned up nice and the diff pan is still solid with only a few minor nicks. Ok so small update due to my shot blaster being lost in the post
When stripping the engine down I managed to snap a fuel inlet pipe into the r/h carb. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Now I have scrolled through the parts manual and can't find it in there, so to the more knowledgeable than I, can I find this item or even make a replacement easily or do I have to replace with an Edelbrock 500cfm carb and new intake manifold?

So today I managed to start the proper de-gundging of the engine, an I thought I didn't have ocd
So I started with it looking like this: Click image to enlarge And with some good degreaser, a stiff nylon brush, a copper brush and my small steam gun I achieved this: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Now that is one side done, out of the 6 and it's taken me about 6 hours and I'm still not 100% happy. Oh how easy life could be if I was a cowboy. Once this is finaly cleaned, more stripping required before I'm happy I have all the sludge off (really is amazing the amount out c that builds up over the years). I have to pick a nice colour to paint it, I am thinking silver with the rocker covers painted somthing special, anyone have any other ideas? 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html
