Hi guys,
Not a problem at all as my 200Tdi has always done it...But... Does anyone else notice when cranking on initial start-up the handbrake light ignites and then turns out the second the engine starts? Also the Pto/gearbox light flashes on and then turns off immediately. Does this happen for anyone else? I didn't think they would be plugged into anything so why the flash on startup? Voltage drop on turning over, voltage can get as low as 8v for a second it two whilst cranking.

It doesn't have a handbrake switch and it never illuminates apart from on start up with the pto box light Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

Yeah brake fluid is fine
Its purely a curiosity thing as its always done it so was just wandering why it is. I'm not going to start pulling the dash apart to follow wires though.. Its not THAT interesting Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197 Self confessed mileage hunter |

Early ones had a brake check light. Not sure how it works but was designed to work via a relay to give a light at start up and go out if all was OK with the brake pressure unit. I think.

I haven't got a 200Tdi to look at so I may be mis-remembering, but I think they come on as a self-test just to confirm the light is working, then go off. Cranking may be pulling the volts low enough to retrigger the self-test. That's not a dent, it's a rivet. That's not a dent, it's a rivet. That's not ... oh! That is a dent!

Info in this post. Read reply 8. Quite possible that this is your light. If you have the Pressure Differential unit then I guess it is all working OK

Possibly, but wouldn't that show up on the Brake warning light rather than the Handbrake light?
And why would it also operate the pto light? Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197 Self confessed mileage hunter |

Brake warning light illuminates with key at position III (i.e. start) as a bulb check.
Mine does it and always has. No pressure differential warning thingy either as its a 90, just a G-valve on the rear brake line. The brake warning light is otherwise only triggered when the fluid is low. Last edited by Retroanaconda on 12th Dec 2015 11:48am. Edited 1 time in total |

Concur with retro above, it comes on as a bulb check.
