Have asked the question about heated lens on headlights and E marks.

Apparently there are some technical issues with the heater elements and E mark approval. Please do not ask me to explain this one away!

So the short answer is that it will be very doubtful if we will see E marked versions of the Truck-Lites in the near future.

Yes there are differences in DOT and E mark requirements, different countries different laws, regulations etc.

It's few years since I've driven regularly in heavy snow conditions but back then you'd have to stop every 30 mins or so to move the build up of snow on the windscreen.

The wipers moved it all efficiently to the edges but even the heated screen and blowers on full demist could not handle the compacted stuff at the edges. As it built up it then compromised the sweep of the wipers, making a stop a necessity.

It also clogged the radar box for the cruise but that's a different issue.

So if you are having to get out to clear the screen, how hard is it to deal with the lights at the same time? And if the heat generated to keep the screen clear cannot do the job, how effective will the elements be in the lights?

Just another thing to not work as intended/when needed most or go wrong...

Still a very good idea for Nolden and Speaker to look into as part of a next generation improvement. Whistle You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

I read this and then did a little more research on the EVO 2 vs the truck lite.

The light from the EVO 2 is just unreal especially compared to the truck lite. The down side to me and the upside for others is that they don't look exactly classic. The other side of it is clearing the lens vs the heating element.

I am also installing 2 PIAA driving lights on the bumper which will probably be total overkill but will put out light when I need it.

I've come to the same conclusion that if JW puts out a heated element then I upgrade my EVO 2's then. The weather here in Nanaimo BC (just across the water from Vancouver) is almost identical to sothern England so really only a week of snow at most and, of course, snow when driving up to Whistler.

Thanks.
