I am always a bit wary of wheel cleaners, especially if ya have nice painted calipers with any writing/logos on them etc,...which can go dull, be totally erased after a while, with wheel cleaners.
Also, be very carefull that no residue is left on your disc or pad face, as such can cause brake shudder. Not saying I've never used wheel cleaners, because I have, but on my "Good" cars, ie our C63, HSV GTO (6 spot APs), I never used a brake cleaner, because I never let 'em get really dirty, loaded up with dust etc, and was always able to get 'em clean with ordinary car wash detergent, left over after I washed the car. An alternative is Wonder Wheels Hot wheels, minimal, gentle agitation with a paint brush shifts everything.
£5 or less from Morrisons or Wilko's,it's my goto cleaner for the once a year, wheel off clean(inside and out)/brake strip service. As said, the rest of the year, your usual soapy water and "sponge" should be enough, especially if you spend a few seconds a month with quick detailer on your wheels. Also brilliant for cleaning calipers ....on Defenders, dunno about expensive painted ones tho,but detailers must use harsh cleaners to clean them. http://www.wilko.com/car-cleaning/wonder-w...vt/0322746 Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5. |
