defender td5 raised breathers, seperate pipes or joined?
Hi chaps, I fitted raised breathers to my td5 90 yesterday however i'm a little concerned due to a few things i have read since.

I have basically run the rear diff breather to the front and up infront of the bulk head to meet with the other 3 breathers for transfer box, gearbox and front diff. From here I have put both diff pipes into a y connection and one pipe from this up to the snorkel. I have done the same with the transfer and gearbox.

I've been told that due to the transfer box and gearbox having different oils I should have seperate pipes for these so 3 in total up the snorkel as opposed to the current 2. Can anyone confirm this?

Apparently it's due to possible contamination of the oils once the engine has cooled and remaining gasses condensed.

Hugh

I wouldn't expect any problems with this as if oil is really coming that high in the breather soemthing is wrong anyway and you have to change the oil anyway.

I don't expect problems from oil fumes going from the gearbox into the transfer box or the other way. Roel

i agree in that i dont think fumes would be an issue. that said my auto when she gets hot on a long winch (300ft ish) climb over a certain gradient will chuck some ATF out the breather, if i had combined breathers this could be a problem.

I wouldnt worry about it. Cheers
