Aye - but they're built properly and will likely survive the apocalypse - we have a 1997 with nearly 200,000 miles - original engine and box, very little rust, chassis perfect. They just keep going. Shame Toyota didnt build Defenders.... Big Cry

TBH I love both - the Defender is iconic, fun, etc... but it is horribly built, unreliable and expensive. Producing a 20k + vehicle in the late 2000s/2010s that rust within the first few years of manufacture is frankly unacceptable by any standard. Cruisers are similarly expensive - but the build quality and reliability is remarkable. I've owned many, many 4x4s, but the 80 series cruiser is a true icon. Bow down

In Aussie, the Toyota Landcruiser is the 4WD "benchmark", it is the vehicle by which all others are judged, and they are IMMENSELY popular in Aus. We are on the road at the moment, we've seen literally squillions of them, some towing huge caravans,.....but we haven't seen a single Defender!

The cheapest entry landcruser is £35000! each to their own but i equate a land cruser to a range rover so on that basis i am out!

For some reason toyota doesn't sell the true land cruiser in the uk. If you visit South Africa or Australia there are loads of cheaper, utility, basic 4x4 trucks that would be natural competition for the defender. That's why sales in these countries of the defender are so low. They sell a hilux based station wagon which I would love to own , a modern version of the hilux surf.

Went to look at a Q3 today (I do quite often buy without seeing or driving the car), did that with a Freelander and the Defender.

Obviously very nice. I'm leasing the Q3, well you wouldn't expect me to do anything less when I run a a leasing Department for our dealership and thankfully service and maintenance is going to be VWFS issue.

I'm sure the Defender will find a good home, it's certainly a very sorted and nice spec truck. 2015 Audi Q3 Quattro S Line Plus 184 TDI Stronic

Funnily enough, we actually like the drive, brakes of course could be better but other than that it's pretty good considering it spends it's life on the M4. Also does 30 mpg day in day out. 2015 Audi Q3 Quattro S Line Plus 184 TDI Stronic

After having had 3 of the things I'm now well and truly over them! But the cook loves it so my hopes of a D4 have been put on the back burner..... maybe I need a new cook. Laughing
