TD5 MAF Sensor Query
Just replaced the the injector wiring loom and rocker cover gasket. On hooking up to an Autocom it showed the MAF sensor sitting at 4.40 and not moving regardless of revs. Having gone over the vehicle in the week that I have had it I noticed the MAF was unplugged. I'm now presuming this is laziness on on the part of the previous owner not addressing the issue?
From searching a reading 4.40 implies the MAF is knackered - correct?

The 110 is driving ok and gets up to 70 with no real issues or smoke, how urgently do I need to change it? There was some oil in the red plug at the ECU, it's been recommended I open up the ECU and see if there is any oil in there, (by an Independent garage) which could be causing the MAF not to work as it should....any thoughts?

Finally if it does need replacing I see a genuine MAF is the only way to go - does anyone have one they want to be rid of or am I going to have to Google to find the price?! These 2 outlays in the first week aren't ones I wanted to be making!

Cheers,

Tom. 2002 110 CSW TD5, Zambezi Silver

4.4 is dead, it should sit arround 60kg/hr at idle. MHK100620G is the part number.

If you leave it unplugged then the ECU will assume default settings. Mine is currently unplugged and has been for the last week or so with no issues. It is getting plugged in again over the weekend as I don't think the issue is the MAF.(In my case at least) 1999 Defender TD5 110

I'm guessing that's what he did! What will a new MAF give me if it seems to be driving well at the moment?

300Tdis were so much simpler! 2002 110 CSW TD5, Zambezi Silver

Thanks for that - Bell being OEM would keep me happy normally but having seen a few threads saying original LR only can Bell enlighten me?

Thanks again,

Thats what I thought! Although OEM is c.£85 and "LR Genuine" is c. £143?

So the plot thickens - got under the bonnet this evening after getting the kids to sleep and the top hose is just sat on the sound proofing cowl! Would this not being connected after the loom change (by the Independent) cause the 4.40 reading from the Autocom?

Still getting to grips with the more 'technical' aspects of the TD5 - so apologies for the questions!

T.

That's for the breather on the rocker cover so could have been left off after the injector loom replacement. Three 13mm bolts to take the plastic cover off and a pair of pliers to put the pipe back on. I don't think that would do anything to the maf but others mat know better. Ray

Thanks,I know that was left off after they did the loom, just hopefully querying whether it would make a difference to the MAF. Guessing not so will look at replacing... 2002 110 CSW TD5, Zambezi Silver

Used AL previously but not this time!

I think it's running well despite the MAF seemingly not working, what difference will a replacement make being new to the TD5 world? 2002 110 CSW TD5, Zambezi Silver

With it disconnected the Ecu falls back on default settings so with a working maf fitted it should give slightly better performance and mpg or atleast mine did. Ray

Good enough for me - I guess I will be giving Bell a call - seems easy enough to change unless I've missed something?!
