Cabin lights
Hi folks,

My cabin lights have never really worked properly since I bout the truck last year.

The lights don't always come on after opening a door, and sometimes they randomly come on and stay on.

I don't think it's an electrical fault as such (a short for example) but I'm figuring it's all down to the door sensors / switches.

On a 2001 TD5 SW, what would the logic be for the cabin lights if front and rear both set to automatic?

I think it's linked in some way to the alarm, but not sure.

Are the switches normally open or closed, I.e. If I shorted the wire to the switch would that trick the ECU to thinking the door is open or closed.

Also I note that all the switches look rubbish, ie in dire need of replacement, but before I do I'd like to understand if I'm opening up a can of worms or not, especially if it relates back to the alarm.

Cheers
Amdy

The doors work on switched earth

door closed =open switch
door open = closed switch

wire to door shorted to body will give same thing as open door

door switches can corrode, but cheap just to replace

eBay Item No. 221006232419

think its not uncommon for water ingress problems with the alarm unit

Thanks munch.

Do you know what the logic is?

I..e my lights will switch on after opening the driver or boot door, but stay illuminated even when I start up the car!

Sometimes I need to rattle the switches to get them to earth out properly before they come on!

Cheers
Andy

Hi thanks, got that bit.

Just wondering what the timing is meant to be when you close a door.

Cheers

You can set a delay or shut off as soon as the door is shut with a Nanocom or the like

Basically there's 3 choices, you have a delay, they go off when the doors are shut or they don't work at all.
How the factory set it is anyone's guess Wink

All the ones I've seen (though all post update TD5) you shut the door, there's a delay then the light goes off.
If you turn the ignition on with the door shut, the light will go out. If you open or shut the door with the ignition on, there is no delay but the light will go on and off.

There's also the flashing light on the dash which varies depending on which door is open.

Thanks.

Currently my lights come on when I open a door, but stay on for 10mins or so before switching off.

This happens irrespective of me starting up the truck...I can be driving for 10mins with lights still on!

Not sure what the issue is!

Cheers
