110 v Disco 4 !!
Doesn't look like I will cross over to the dark side after all.....
Checked out specs on LR web page, can it be true that :
1. the turning circle on a 110 is 7.18m where that of a disco 4 is 11.45?
2. the 110 is 239mm shorter than a disco 4

This is what it says, but surley the turning circle on a disco 4 can't be that bad, please correct me (tell me I can't read) or tell me the LR web page is wong.

If this is right, the 110 utility will be the one.

Thanks

Well I have noticed that the disco has been gaining weight over the last 20 years. I could be wrong but I'm sure the disco 4 has a wheel base of 130" or not far off!! Compared to the original 100".

If turning circle is the most important criteria in your choice i think maybe the Discovery overcomes that by its refinement, build quality, comfort, power, looks, and lack of annoying repetitions that any Defender will throw at you but if turning circle is your thing stuff all that and buy a Defender if in fact what you say is true.
I drove a 4 a fortnight and it is in a different league from almost any LR product and if funds would allow i would have one on order now. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Its a shame the discovery 4 doesnt have the looks, is no better on power than anything else - comfort is ok, build quality is about the same as any other land rover so no winner there and has just about 0 charactor Mike

The Discovery has the shorter turning circle. Because the 110's is so massive the sneaky blighters at Land Rover quote the turning radius as being 7.18m. The turning circle is the diameter of the circle, and not the radius, so you're actually looking at twice the radius, i.e. 14.36 metres. Peter

i like the D4, its what the D3 should of had for power and mpg balance. turning circle is much better on any of the independent LRs over a beam axle. Cheers

Well, i rate the D4, certainly a improvement on the D3,, the TDV6 in 3.0 lt guise is a cracker,

But, i will stick with the 110 and a Sport :) California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

Thanks Guys, agree with you mse, and Mr Flips, I see what you are saying about the turning calculation, just hope for their sake I don't have to double the one for the disco 4, other wise I may as well buy a VLCC..... better check what calculation / criteria they use for that of the Ranger Rover / Freelander turning circle.. Think I will ask my Land Rover garage to explain and wait to see what they come up with...........

D4 best left to those who know best.......

My D3 has about the same if not a little better turning circle then my 90.
If I am at the office and use the first parking lot I can just get out off the gate without backing up with both LR's but I have the feeling that the D3 has more space left.
As a 110 doesn't come close to a 90, I assume that the D4 must have a much better turning circle.

I rate my D3 much higher then a 110 as it has much more comfort and also has the looks as it is a G4. Mr. Green Roel

Just to mention... Perhaps in Def the web writes about is radius, and in Disco about diameter?

Just a thought, someone wrote once that a Discovery was what the used car salemen drove and a defender is what a real man drove ( or in some cases on this site woman)
didn't write it, just passing it on, and having not been in a new discovery, can't say much either. 2008 Defender 110 60 year Edition (sold unfortunately)

well, been out in the disco 3 auto and manual and the 110 utility and just waiting back to see when the dealer can get me a utility XS in grey....

wish the defender had the 2.7 v6 in it, but can't have it all.

Hope I've made the right choice..... Whistle Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
