2007 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Stornoway Grey

What are they?

Hi guys, just discovered something in puma engine bay on 2007 XS that I haven't a clue about. Two black plastick tubes/hooks towards rear left hand rear upper side of engine, one easily visible, the other lower down, what are they. I was showing a mate the engine and he asked what they were, don't know said I and fiddled a bit with them, went to leave and engine wouldn't turn over, just like a flat battery. So back and Fiddle with hookey things again and engine them starts.

Any clues?

breather pipes for axles, transfer box etc

the pipes themselves would have nothing to do with starting issue , but a loose connection on a wire moved by you touching the pipes maybe

they run up beside the starter motor , first place to look
