Where is the jerry can located?
If it's in the back you should be able to just stick a pipe in the jerry and another in the filler pipe and let gravity do the work, but you might need to suck on the exit end to get it flowing
otherwise there are plenty of diesel pumps on ebay with an inlet pipe and outlet pipe, so you can fit a small pipe into the jerry can |

I have my jerrycans in the roof rack and with a manual pump and the gravity is enough

Hi Dennis
Where about do you/your wife travel that is remote enough to warrant carrying extra fuel? You may be over thinking this as in all my travels around the UK the only time I have been close to worrying about running short of fuel is in mid-Wales on a Sunday when all the remote garages often shut from Sat afternoon until Mon (and that is in an old 90 with tiny side mount tank). If you are based in and travelling/working around Merseyside then I suggest you just plan a bit more carefully about keeping fuelled up as there really shouldn't be any need for the complications of carrying and transferring fuel in most parts of the UK. I apologise if you are actually going on an expedition to some remote foreign land and I am giving the wrong advice |

Laser Jiggle Siphon Hose 1.75m x 20mm - used something like this quite successfully previously:
http://www.screwfix.com/p/laser-jiggle-sip...20mm/23447 but have you considered the obvious - carry two 10 litre cans instead of a single twenty or have something to decant into on the floor that you can use by just tipping the 20 litre can whilst it's on the floor also? |

Best solution we use is from Frost Auto Restore involves a 12v compressor works really well for fluid transfer

Thanks to everyone for all your suggestions, from the cheap to the expensive. because I have never needed anything like this, did not know so many options that could handle diesel, always thought those for water were not suitable. I like the idea of the electric ones but taking into account grounding and price, I think two 10Lt can will be the answer, as very manageable and safe. In reply to I Like Old Skool, it is mainly for our run down to Cornwall when I always seem to be pushing it on the last leg. Have never actually run out as I top up with the can, I suppose 20Lt is is a bit overkill.

With both the 90 and the jimny the tank size is miniscule with both the range is in the order of 250 miles and the honest truth is that even with a near continuous trip round the remotest parts of northern Scotland I have never had recourse to my jerry can. Ok I have to stop for fuel in either car much more frequently than my old discovery but it's easy to plan long trips in legs with fuel stops even in the back of beyond. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.
