Alternator not charging : 2.25 S3
Alternator not charging battery on 2.25 petrol military 12v lightweight , is it an external voltage regulator or standard Lucas unit that's just knackered ?

Is it something like a lucas Acr unit.
If so the regulator is internal to the unit.

Does your battery warning light come on with the ignition. (engine not running) Run engine for full testing. of alternator.
If it does and the battery charge output B+ from the back of the alternator is less than or the same as standing battery voltage.
Then yes the alternator is not charging.

If the battery light does not come on as described the field circuit is not being exitcited.
The alternator needs to see battery voltage on the field wire so it knows what to do.
This should be battery voltage (when disconnected from the alt)
Hope this helps.
Don`t forget the earth`s, belt tension, state of battery. And general connections.

Lucas 16ACR. The red charging light comes on when started and then goes out , looking as though it's charging but it's not .
All connections clean and earthed , belt ok , just no charge output from alternator . Reckon it's goosed .
