Defender side step

Hi all,

does anyone have experience in repairing the damage to my side step. As you can see, the rubber surround has come away from the body of the step. I've temporarily repaired it with screws in order to reduce further damage. Can the complete rubber surround be purchased and replaced?

Thanks in advance

Nidge

I'm not certain but looking at my own steps it looks like it's a single piece that goes under the aluminium plate with a lip. where the rivets compress the rubber it squashes the rubber out.

There is a repair kit for the steps now but I'm not certain what parts are included.

Symptom General Accessories
Content
Issue:
Entire step kits (VPLDP0004/5/6 or VPLDP0067/6Cool are
being replace due to lost or damaged step tread mat end
caps or step tube end caps and bungs.
Cause:
No service kit available for the steap tread mat end caps or
step tube end caps and bungs.
Action:
A service kit has been released VPLDP0093 which
contains step tread mat caps and step tube caps and
bungs. 1 set will service 1 step. Please order this kit
instead of replacing the steps.

So I was thinking of a different style but having done it for them there maybe a similar kit for yours?

Stupacat, thanks for looking into this for me, very much appreciated. I'll get my Inspector Clouseau hat on and do some digging.

Cheers Thumbs Up

Had a quick look on the latest microcat and no mention of a service kit for your style of side steps.

Have you thought of using Rubber weld cement to try and fix it. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Sadly out of warranty by two months. Tried a number of enquiries today with no luck, so repair appears to be the only solution. Shame really, I can't believe that the problem will be unique to me. Cement is an option worth considering, also thought of a discrete slim right angle bracket located over the damage, protecting where I would step.

Thanks all, keep you posted Thumbs Up

If you drill out the rivets could you repair and then turn it 180 degrees. The repair would then be on the inner edge, less visible and unlikely to get damaged again?

I have one of these steps for sale. I had a collision on my drivers side which bent the step and I replaced both steps with SVX ones courtesy of the 'for sale' items on here. I can't recall what I did with the bent one but the passenger side one is in my garage. it was only 2 months old when it came of and went into storage.
