Came across this adaptor from M&D. What do you think?

Personally I would think that there would be drivability issues due to the fact that the gearing is better sutied to the torque characteristics of the TDCi, and in low box first and reverse would be dangerous in novice hands due to the lack of idle jack.

However it would be interesting to hear experiences from someone who's actually fitted on and tried!

Best of all, you end up with a TDCi driven plate in the clutch, with a life expectancy of about 50k miles before the springs fall out! Big Cry

Wasn't there a pink and grey 90 on the Mobile Centre stand at the Land Rover shows last year?

I'm sure that was a six speed mated to a TDi engine and they said it was brilliant.

I think IRB may have been involved with it.

Try speaking to Ian at IRB.

I would be very interested in a 6 speed Tdi But by all accounts I have heard that it would be much the same until you hit 6th gear and then you would have to floor it up to 75 in order to maintain the torque required for the 6th gear.

For what its worth and the expense of a new 6 speed box and the faffing around involved I would rather spend the money on a Rocky Mountain Overdrive and get what is effectively a 6th gear anyway. Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

You'd need a 1.2 transfer box to at least otherwise 1st would literally be non-existent.

The only down side is you dont have any of electrickery (cant remember it's official, something like spike, or hike) when descending as the gearing is way to low and could cause you to slide rather than descend controllably.

Not to much of an issue if you descend in 2nd though, just for the real steep stuff!

Exactly Thumbs Up

Stick with a Tdi Box and ether get a overdrive or look at swapping out your transfer box for a 1.2 one, there are lots of them around just be weary as not all of them have diff lock. Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

Sounds like a good option.

I have to pull my box out at some point as its using a litre of oil every 2 months how which is bordering on excessive Rolling Eyes Might consider a snubby R380 to replace it but not sure yet. Will see how the finances are looking when it comes to it. Besides oil is much cheaper than gearboxes Laughing

Glad to hear your still out and about had gone a bit quiet for a while. Looking forward to seeing your updates Thumbs Up Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

I've just had a new GBox and forgot about the V8 5th! But mine came from another source so dont know if it was an option.

Just had the TBox rebuild to in a bit of an emergency as when the box came off, the transfer didn't look great! Because of time constraints, the people who rebuild my transfer box didn't have time to strip a Disco TBox to get the 1.2 gear so not got that either Sad! Pain in the bum!

Keep thinking about overdrive, but £1600-1700 all in is verging on insane. It would take years of fuel saving (if I get any) to balance that out!
