On short break to cornwall , left home stopped near yeovil for diesel , walked round back of defender and noticed black oily spots on back , walked round n/s , oil over the wing and underneath , openned bonnet , vac pump splindle seal pi55ing out , not leaked a bit before , so divert in to yeovil find euro car parts , they dont do them so got litre of oil and some brake cleaner , ask where nearest main dealer , or ford main dealer ring fords first , they not got pump could get pump til 1 oclock its now 8 in morning , go to lr main dealer they got pump no gasket and pump is cheaper then fords
right got pump now off to fords to get gasket , get gasket
Now fit new pump , gasket , bit of a clean off on roadside
back on way again , 10 mins to fit pump , 2 hours mucking about to get bits
second day heater speeds play up , 1 slow 2 fast 3 fast , parked in cape cornwall car park decide to cheak it out , unplug resister no slow speed still 2 fast speeds
ok sod it take dash centre out , get switch out to find a small ball of solder sitting on contacts , picked it off , all working ok put back togather
STILL could have been alot worst !

That's why we love our Defenders so much - every journey is an adventure!

Sorry to hear about your problems.
This reminds me of a trip from Essex to Cornwall almost 25 years ago in our 110 CSW turbo diesel (not TDI),
Wife 8 months pregnant. Last min trip to Cornwall before arrival of child no2. Dartmoor on route (kind of) 4pm on a Saturday evening in a forest and 'snap' went ther throttle cable............
We crept out of the forest on tickover, all the way to a phone box just outside Princetown (near the jail) and called the AA for help. How long do you think it took the AA to attend? 20 min's. I was amazed. He made a cable (from stock wire) terminated it and we were on our way. It had the same cable for all the remining time we owned it.
I wonder what might happen now if the remote fly by wire thingy went wrong in the middle of knowhere? or maybe they dont fail and thats the point.......
