Door Strikers - advice sought please!
The strikers for the locking mechanism of my front doors, especially that of the driver's door which gets the most use, have developed the usual wear problem whereby the plastic sleeve on the pin has worn to the extent that it no longer trips the catch on the door, hence the door doesn't shut easily.

Since it is not possible (as far as I know) to resleeve the pins (which are not removable), the only option is to replace the strikers.

I see from research that aftermarket strikers (such as the dreaded blue box, which I refuse to fit) cost around the £2.30 to £2.50 mark each, which seems reasonable provided that they are of decent quality.

Genuine parts, which I'd rather fit, cost a staggering £12.50 or so each, which seems a bit much.

Alternatively, there is the X-Trouser version from X-Eng which costs the same as the LR version but seems to be rather better engineered.

I am sure that there are those here who have had the same problem, and I would appreciate any thoughts or feedback, especially about:-

1) Does the X-Trouser have a plastic sleeved pin, or a solid full-diameter pin?

2) If you've fitted an X-Trouser striker, did you have to shim the striker further from the door pillar (my catch is very close to the end of the pin and I think will need extra shimming)

3) Are any of the aftermaket ones OEM?

4) Are any of the aftermarket ones any good?

Thanks!

Hi Blackwolf,

Reply from experience ...

1) solid Diameter pin
2) Extra shimming was required when i fitted X- Trouser strikers but as our 90,it is our 1 family owned vehicle and I can confirm the doors never shut better in 12years prior to fitting!

Thanks Andy. Thumbs Up

My thoughts are that if the X-Trouser costs the same as the gen part, but has a solid (and I suspect renewable) pin, it is the sensible way to go.

Replaced mine on my old 90 and now with my 110, with the X eng ones. Both times I've had to pack them out, the recent order I just added four shims, which where terrafirma parts.
