Good Afternoon

We have received several requests for clarification surrounding what needs to be disclosed when discussing modifications.

As an independent insurance broker, we have over 40 insurers on our panel covering a variety of policy types. Most of our insurers have specific contracts to target certain sectors of the market where their experience and knowledge is best suited to give the right level of cover for our clients – with several insurers specifically targeting modified vehicles.

There is no universally accepted definition of what constitutes a modification, therefore it is advisable to give as much information to ensure you are correctly insured.

At A-Plan we would request to be advised if a vehicle has been modified, altered or adapted, to encourage conversation surrounding potential exposure and in almost all cases stickers and decals do not have an adverse impact on the premium.

This is our interpretation and therefore not an industry wide statement, however if club/forum members have any doubt as to whether they are correctly covered with their existing insurer please do contact us on 01635 874646 and we will be happy to assist.

Thanks

I too have a question......(sorry Venomator but I feel adding a question such as mine to your initial one may highlight to people of potential shortcomings perhaps in the event of being offered a policy with Markerstudy).

Markerstudy is a company I have had dealings with and their customer service is absolutely appalling as are their reviews, pages and pages of them.

You use Markerstudy......Do you highlight their obvious failings and poor feedback to prospective customers and if not why not?

Mine was a no fault, no claim notification and being threatened with cancellation of insurance unless I provided them with a photocopy of my driving licence within 7 days speaks volumes about how they treat or value their customers. The reviews too are an eye-opener.

A few of the headlining reviews......

“ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING SERVICE” “An awful company at best! ”“DO NOT USE EVER!!”“Utterly disgraceful!!”“Worst company to deal with!”“DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!! “Worst Insurance Company ever!”

A singleton that did stand out.....

“Surprisingly Pain Free Claim ” Rolling with laughter Whistle

The insurance may be cheap but so is their standard of service. My advice along with many others is steer well clear.

K9F, your question is a little off topic, I have explained our stance on modifications and stickers and if anyone does have any further questions I am easily contactable either by phone or by PM.

For you though, please see my post titled About us, I understand that you have had issues with Markerstudy in the past, but as it wasn't through A-Plan there isn't much I can do to help and assist.

It is common practice for insurers to request a copy of your driving licence, and in the next 12-24 months its likely that you will be asked for your driving licence at quotation stage. Again if you have any queries regarding this please call or PM me.

Thanks

Thank you for your response. No my 'broker' is not A-Plan nevertheless my broker has been asked exactly the same question and furnished me with a comprehensive answer and a 'price match' with a much more reputable underwriter. Whether you have your own claim department or not ultimately it will be they who decide to pay out or not, and from public information available and my own dealings with Markerstudy I will continue to advise people to seek an alternative insurance provider based on my own customer experience. Producing my licence is not an issue but when accompanied with a threat of policy cancellation when I was simply notifying them of a no fault, no damage (to my vehicle), no claim accident it is out of order.

Once again thank you. Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Insurance companies have to tick all these boxes, I am not sure they do, especially item 9.

1. Integrity

2. Skill, care and diligence

3. Management and control

4. Financial prudence

5. Market conduct

6. Customers' interests

7. Communications with clients

8. Conflicts of interest

9. Customer: Relationships of trust

10. Clients' assets

Most insurance companies are also hand in glove with their approved repair centres, in fact most of the big companies own their own repair centres, where people of dubious parentage Whistle , scrutinise any damage, and it has been my experience try and get away with as little repairs as possible, using the cheapest parts.

While all insurers have to cover themselves against claims it always appears to me no matter which insurance company you are dealing with there is an element of mistrust towards the claimant and that if they can they will wriggle out of a claim if at all possible.
British insurers are set up to make money, no company of insurers puts a customer first instead it is the company and its shareholders. The element of trust with the public with car insures is fast fading and it is down to the often arrogant way in which the public is dealt with by them. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

I agree and with a recent incident when my daughter had an accident her insurance company wanted an extra £200 excess if we took it to a repairer of our choice rather than theirs.

Your post 'rings very true' in all aspects. I wonder if brokers will place their customers or underwriters first in order of priority? Getting the money in or ensuring the company they recommend has a good history and feedback? I think I know the latter but in this day and age and if in the business to make money who can blame them? It is the small fish in the big pond that will pay the price perhaps?

Markerstudy are still rubbish in comparison to many others. Thumbs Up

Re: A-Plan Insurance Question...
K9F, the question was put to me about the Vicar and her stickers, much like many people have asked in the last few days.

I don't want to continue the debate about Markerstudy, I have explained who we are and how we work, there is really nothing more I can say on the subject.

Fair enough I'll not split hairs or argue over whether my question was valid placing it as I did under the thread title of......

"A-Plan Insurance Question"

Nevertheless not wishing to continue the debate over Markerstudy let's allow people make their own mind up. My question remains unanswered but it matters not, you 'have explained how you work.'

Thank you for your response anyway. Thumbs Up Bow down

From a review posted today.....under the title.....

“They will be your worst nightmare!!!!”

"I cannot believe how these people can be free instead of behind bars."

One worrying factor about Markerstudy is though they have a UK contact address there registered company address is
Markerstudy Insurance Company Limited,
Montagu Pavilion
8-10 Queensway,
Gibraltar.

I suppose that will put them out of our Laws and that is maybe why they get away with such practise.
However this is copied from one of their policy documents

At Markerstudy we are dedicated to delivering a first class level of service to all policyholders. However, we accept that things can occasionally go wrong and would rather be told about any concerns you have so that we can take steps to make sure the service you receive meets your expectations in the future.
If a dispute regarding your policy or claim does arise, and it cannot be resolved by reference to your insurance intermediary/broker please contact us:
Complaints Handling,

Tunbridge Wells,

To cap it all, having notified them of a no claim, no damage, no fault accident come renewal time Markerstudy loaded my premium by nearly 50% due to an 'open claim?'

Couldn't get shot quick enough.

Unfortunately I fell into the same trap as many others do of taking up on a policy due to a broker's recommendation without doing any research myself. Never again.

Not A-Plan I hasten to add but they do use Markerstudy as admitted too.

Time and convenience is the key here. In this day and age with all the information available in the public domain please spend a little time at your keyboard to see if the product and the company providing it is any good! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
