All made in big numbers is not making them very exclusive. But if in 5 years or so I would decide to buy another one, I'd go for a well specced local Heritage.

Of the three final edition models, I think the Heritage will be most sought after and will retain its value better, given its lower initial cost. It's apparently already more popular than the other final edition models?? I also consider a 90 more desirable than a 110. But a pristine V8 90 would be my pick.

Out of the 3, I think the Heritage, Although I would rather have the Adventure myself. The AB it just too much for what it is to start with so cannot see that being a big hitter?

The heritage is the tip of the cap to the 1st Hue so for that reason.

I agree with you on all points, in fact I am planning a trip to Japan to find such a V8 90 - it will replace our 110 TD5 as that doesn't fit in my new to be completed shed, but 2 90's will! 1955 Series 1 107" Pick up.

Id say any Defender as long as you took it as standard rolled it into your climate controlled shed and left it there for 5 years would command a good price.

But what's the point?

I'm betting on a 110 Heritage 'cause its what I've got in the garage, but the what's the point question crops up frequently. It has done 4k in 18 months, but all fun stuff - holidays, shooting trips, family days out. Looking at other long term usable investments, in a game of top trumps what wins out of a 3 door Disco 1 with a 300tdi and auto box and a 4.6 HSE P38? Assume similar condition / history / relative mileage.

I'm going to say 3 door 300 tdi I've always had a bit of a soft spot for them,had the offer of one a few years back and declined,and now friends who own one have said I will have first refusal when the time comes to sell, this time I will not let the opportunity past,the chassis,boot floor and wheel arches are good just got faded paint,don't get me wrong the p38 is a lovely motor just not for me personally Thumbs Up Paul Tash n Barney

Values in the "long term", to a large extent, will be affected by how good the "new" Defender will be, and whether owners & enthusiasts (like us) of the "old" models see it as desirable when it is finally released. If they (we) do, "ours" mightn't be looking so good?
But, aside from that, there are a couple, which imho stand out. The 1st is the V8 50th,...can't see anything better than a really good original low mileage example,...the ultimate, I reckon. The second would be a late model, well optioned, low mileage Puma 2.2 XS 90 S.W...also a bit of a classic I think.

That's interesting Pickles, I hadn't thought of a link between the value of the Defender and how well the replacement is received. Whilst the new one will be branded Defender, I think it will be such a different animal as to have little or no impact on the old one - hopefully. Smile

Totally agree there is a certain 'thing' about P38s. However there is a very clean W plate with 61K in dark blue with cream hide on fleabay for a touch under £5k. That feels like a half decent investment assuming it doesn't have a ton of miles piled on to it.
