I'm afraid I've heard the same, or at least that it's very, very unlikely. They've had AJ-V8 powered Defenders running around at Gaydon for ages but getting such a machine into production is tricky and expensive, not least because it would most likely have to go through a full round of official crash tests with the very real possibility that it would not pass.
