I had a commercial D2 that was remapped and was never unhitched from a 3.5t trailer that we got rid of on just shy of 290,000. It was bought by someone I know and is well over 320,000 by now with no major problems. I find the Td5s are better the harder they're worked, not an engine that likes plodding along and being treated with kid gloves

Mines done 185,000 and on its fourth
![]() First did ~170,000. Coolant hose collapsed, catastrophic overheating Second (a turner rebuild) did 1,200, threw a rod suspected rebuild issue. Third (a turner rebuild) did 8,000, then the timing chain snapped. I bought it about 2000 miles before this happened. Third engine is currently in my garage awaiting autopsy! Fourth (second hand off here) is at 2500 (+100k with the first owner) and counting. My fingers are crossed! Last edited by miker on 26th Apr 2016 7:44pm. Edited 1 time in total |

130K kilometres all original, no mods (except EGR removal) dealer serviced until brought to Canada, I now do all my own servicing. Change oil every 7-10K . No problems yet. 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

An old td5 of mine (1999) has just racked up 470000 miles, i sold it many years ago at 350000 and it has only ever had a head gasket, 2 fuel injectors, 1 fuel pressure regulator and a injector harness. But it did recently need it original clutch replacing at 240000 miles
![]() current car (2004 td5) on 120000 miles and drives like a new one ![]() Buy on condition, not miles. My mates 2.4 puma shat its pants at 45000 miles and no warranty ![]() 2004 110 TD5 Double cab. *GONE* 2010 110 2.4 XS station wagon |

Totally agree with buying on condition. I've driven Td5s with 200,000> that drive spot on and 2.2s with 11,000 that feel as if they want to be broken up.

My 2005 TD5 Ninety has reached 75,000 miles.
It's still leak free everywhere. It needs no top-ups of anything between annual services. (Except the screen wash bottle.) I love it. ![]() ![]() Last edited by Laurie on 26th Apr 2016 6:19pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Both my Puma and my TD5 (Disco) are over 190,000 miles with no significant engine parts replaced.

Just hit 89k and runs nice
![]() I have looked out for threads on td5 longevity and the overwhelming opinion is that it is good for 250K plus miles. principles: don't let it overheat put in good oil and in my opinion genuine filters drive it hard and most of all enjoy it ![]() |

I've just hit 78k I service mine every 5k miles as my mate has a garage and it costs me less than 50 quid to do all oils and filters on good oil.
it tends to stay golden till about 4k miles and then I change it anyway. The rotor filter must really do its job 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car) 2009 - current .... 2005 zx10r |

My old disco td5 had 195k on the clock and had big cooler, ss exhaust and custom map and went like really well. It had head done by previous owner but other than that it did over 50k with me just with normal servicing. Disco wheel bearings were another story though 😀
