R380 Clutch Slave Cylinder Pushrod | |
After it turned out that the clutch slave cylinder had given in on our TD5 on Friday I set about dismantling it all. upon taking the slave cylinder out I discovered the pushrod was no longer clipped onto the clutch arm. After a quick look online, the general concensus was that either splitting the gearbox to re-assemble or leaving the clip out was the best option. There were a few posts describing clipping the pushrod back in place in situe but gave the impression that the clip would either break or it would take an eternity of fiddling.
Anyway as I am a little OCD and like things to be just right, I decided I would refit, 1/2" deep reach 3/8"drive socket pushed over the rod trapping the clip against the ball end, then a small pair of mole grips to stop the socket moving down the rod. About 10seconds of fiddling and it clipped straight back into place, no broken cli, no problems.
Hopefully this method will help others who find themselves with the pushrod seperated from the clutch arm/fork. Not sure if the method will work with the earlier style of clip.

I used a bit of tube over the rod and then compressed the ear parts of the clip with some cotton. Once in a quick tug on the cotton allowed the plastic ears to move out and locate. But it was a pain 2015 RRS Autobiography SDV6

I found just a dab of grease on the clip arms was enough to get them to open over the arm
