If for some reason I couldn't have a defender, I'd have a 4.5 v8 TD 76 series land cruiser wagon

Don't like the look of the 'troopy' mentioned above particularly but very practical.. Cheers, David

Have to say I even considered looking into importing a 76 land cruiser... Here's why I didnt:

1) 70mph comes up at nearly 3k rpm with a fairly outdated 5spd manual
2) front and rear track are different meaning you either squirrel around in rutted tracks or fix it and carry two spare wheels
3) non permanent 4wd
4) leaf sprung rear, both axles hung on brackets mounted below the axle not above it, hence reducing clearance and high risk of damage
5) no more rustproof than a defender supposedly in damp European conditions
6) price of spares are astronomical

And not really sure that they're as good looking as a defender.

Now I know you could make a much bigger list like the above for the defender, but there's just something about defenders isnt there! I don't think there's as much character in a land cruiser, however much I respect them and know they're probably better than a 110. But not 'better' enough to make us all consider importing them anyway. And they're not really cheap either. Cheers, David

They are imported from South Africa and are fully uk registered having driven them here and when in Australia I have to say they are very much an alternative for the defender and if you are travelling outside of Europe spares steady to come by and the 4.2 with turbo fitted are an awesome over landing vehicle. 2008 110 2.4 XS Utility (Hagrid)
