I fitted a pair of 6x9s in mine, works well and good sound.

6x9's are generally best kept as separate in their own right on a stereo / 2 Chanel Amp set up.
Keep the four speakers as your regular set up. If you enlarge the holes you should be able to fit speakers straight in without rings. Rings look hideous I'm and major the speakers sit proud. On a Puma it's the OS that has the tightest rear clearance but providing the speakers don't have a massive magnet on the rear then it should be fine. Any larger and the speakers will probably all need amping as the HU won't be able to produce the power and it'll overload it and run very very hot. |

I'm going to try the 5.25" and order spacers (just in case) as I'm going with Focals and based on the pair I fitted in the front they do have fairly large magnets. Will post the results. cheers! |

Before you do any cutting do some careful checking, you might be able to fit them slightly towards the gearbox tunnel on both sides.
That will at least mean on the OS the magnet on the rear will keep away from the heater duct / pipe more there. As mentioned in another thread, also be careful of your power requirements from the HU and new speakers. |

A brief post just to conclude that I upgraded the original 4" rear speakers to 5.25" today - I had to enlarge the existing hole slightly but a 2min job using a jigsaw. In total about 2hrs to remove speakers/apply Dynamat to the panel behind (using the Dynamat speaker kit which was perfect for this area) / enlarge the existing holes and replace all trim.
V good improvement over the original 4" LR speakers whilst retaing the same speaker positions and without the need for a bespoke speaker enclosure / running new wires etc. Hope it helps anyone who wants a little more from their rear ICE without significant modification. Click image to enlarge |

Just fitted Hertz DCX170.3 (6.5") speakers on these Landcover rear panels in my TD5. Excellent upgrade

Didn't use any spacers but had to jigsaw the mount opening wider. The speakers now fit flush on the front of the mount rather than recessed.
