300tdi rattle bearing under load. Advice needed
So i have everything just about buttoned up for my V8 to 300tdi swap on my 110 (including fixing the footwell). When I finally got the muffler installed I had what I thought was a rattle/bearing noise when the turbo kicks in under load. I changed the Turbo out for another unit as I thought it was out of balance or had a bearing issue.

The turbo swap (with exhaust manifold) was really straight forward and only took about 2hrs.

Unfortunately my noise is still there. It idles perfectly, maybe a bit low. Sounds great until I really step on it then it gets this really bad rattle/ bearing noise. If i back off on the throttle it completely goes away.

Anyone have any suggestions of what I should do to troubleshoot?

Thanks

Not wishing to be patronising when I say this but it's not exhaust system touching the under carriage? Or a heat shield vibration? Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

Can you make out if the noise is coming from the top of the engine or the bottom of the engine assuming the noise is internal Confused Graham

im with lambert! i recently changed tail pipe and mid pipe on my tdi. a few weeks later a new noise developed. sounded like a dry gearbox bearing or something similar. turned out to be exhaust pipe vibrating in rubber mount!!! Thumbs Up My 109 thread

Lambert, no worry about patronizing, i asked!. The more i think about this I wonder. It only started after I had the muffler done.....let me check

I was so convinced it was the Turbo

Sorted!!!!
So after checking over a few things with some suggestions from a friend. ........

Turns out the lower clamp on the intercooler had completely come loose. It was rattling around under boost pressue/load and I was also losing a considerable amount of power aas the hose was not properly conmected.

Best it has driven since I did the engine swap!,

Thanks for the input

Cheers
