After 60 years our vehicles are still not fit for purpose... gearboxes, clutches, diffs, leaks, softwear, EGR, vacuum pumps, and so on..... here is an old "truth"....
Toyota Versus Land Rover
An old story but so true it's worth telling.
When Toyota were testing the air con on their new land cruiser, they wanted to check to see how air tight the cab was. Obviously panel fit and door seals/ window seals were the weakest points. Anyhow some bright spark decided the only way to test, was to install a live cat and time how long it took to run out of air. The cat was duly placed in the cab, and after 7hours and 48 minutes the poor moggy had expired. Toyota deemed this good enough, as clearly they had a pretty near perfect seal, thereby making the air con as efficient as possible.
Now what Toyota didn't know was that one of the technicians was actualy a mole planted by Land Rover to find where Toyotas were scoring points over the Solihull vehicle. The mole reported back with details of the test. The very next day L.R. too put a live cat in the cab of a new Defender. At the end of the day shift the cat was quite happily sleeping on the front seat. It got up occasionaly to eat, drink and use the litter tray in the rear floor pan, but basicaly seemed untroubled. The day shift went home and expected to find the poor cat dead in the morning.
When they arrived at work, they were in for a terrible shock, the cat had somehow escaped! 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..
