Why not just fit a new (or used) crank and shells?

Hi jim 👍

Not sure what damage been done and it is an engine that has done 207k miles. For me its a question of what next???

I suppose by fitting a replacement engine I would have great peace of mind.

Do you not rekon there would be much damage ??

How do you know that the crank on the "new" replacement engine won't snap after 10 miles.
I had this issue with my 200TDI. The idiot before me had let the front crank pulley work loose and it knackered the keyway . He fixed it with plastic metal.
So I fitted a new crank and shells. And had a good inspection completed for the rest of the engine. It ran so much better than before. 110 D250 SE HT

Mate of mine has a td5 engine out of a discovery which he scrapped

The car was a 2000 model

130k on the clock if I remember. It ran well it was the chassis etc which was toast

Not sure how mutch he wants??

Or another mate has a block with a scored pistion. The crank in that is good & con rods.

If that was mine then I would fit it all with new shells & off I go.

Just a bit of work Thumbs Up Chris

I'd be careful about just fitting a crank and shells.

Anytime I fit a shaft to an engine I get it line bored as a matter of course, without exception.

Thanks for all the comments Thumbs Up

Walfy, the honest answer is I don't know and neither does anybody tbh. But it is obviously a very rare thing and as ian at irb has said it is only the second one that he has ever heard of going, so it's a pretty safe bet it's not going to happen to me again, unless I am very very unlucky.

I just want to try to have as good an engine that I can but one that falls within by budget. I am planning more overland trips and want to try to have any breakdown spoil my adventures.

In an ideal world I would buy new, if you can get them ??? But even if you can I could not afford it. So it is either a very good low milage used engine that I can see or research the service history or a recon engine. I figure this way I improve my chances of serious mechanical issues like I have currently.

Does anybody know anything about these people

Looks like a good deal to me??

We brought a recon L200 engine from these guys & a S/H corsa engine.

Think the owner was called John if I remember. Very nice guy to deal with.

Dont think you will pay that for yor engine. You will only pay that for a servicable engine you send them. Not that most are when sent in Rolling with laughter

They will charge you the price you see plus the price of the crank etc which is broken

Mates engine cost over 2k, but the recon unit was spot on with only a oil leak which we dealt with

You have to put on a pallet & they arrange to have it collected & they look at it when they get it. They did not charge us for this but delivery you do.

Best to have a chat with them

I did go to there unit & look. Big set up Chris

I think like you say its a big set up and they do lots of different engines Thumbs Up

Thinking about what you say re the crank I could buy a cheap used crank and fit it before sending engine off Wink

I'd be very wary of a lot of eBay companies.

Also, they list as 10P.... which apparently does 1999 to 2007.

But it doesn't. 10P is 1999 to 2002... when it went under lots of modifications as part of the thunder upgrade to 2002.

Personally, for a recon Land Rover engine I would only use Richard at Wards Engineering in Rugby if it wasn't building it myself. IRB

Unless you know the guy selling the second hand engine they all seem to be "low mileage, hardly used one owner",I would research re-building yours first, especially if it's a keeper. Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.
