Renewing the chassis on my 90
Hi guys

Have been thinking about replacing my chassis for a galv one hopefully early next year but plan to do stuff to the 90 like overhauling the axles, giving the 90 a + 2" lift whilst we are at it and convert the 90 to rear disc brakes, bulkhead is good, all body mount's are good but obviously will probably come across something once we start unbolting stuff and once we have the galv chassis ready to bolt stuff too mite throw a recon'd gearbox in aswell as secn'd gear syncro has gone in mine Very Happy Graham

It's a very satisfying job, doing it yourself. I did mine a few years ago with a marsland, must be just down the road from you for easy pick up? All in, it cost me around £2700 including brake pipes, new suspension, clutch, timing belt, one inch lift spacers, replacement bulkhead, loads of switches, nuts and bolts and a few tools where needed.

Remember to take tons of photos, I also used brown Manila tags to label stuff and loads of plastic tubs. 2015 RRS Autobiography SDV6

Yeah will post lots of pic's hopeing to buy a disco rear axle when i next get paid aswell as buy some bits for the front axle as i need to mod the front of my garage first as my 90 won't go in now with fitting the special tracks then i can get the 90 in and start rebuilding the front axle then move onto the rear axle after, fit it then buy a terrafirma +2" lift kit fit it then look at getting the chassis should only take 2-3 months to save up for it as its only £1150 from paddocks then the fun starts Very Happy Very Happy Graham

Why buy from Paddocks who will probably order it from Marslansd's, with the risk of the Paddock cowboys dropping it. And having to go all the way to Paddocks to pick it. Plus nasty roads over the moors from the A6 with a trailer and chassis on board, when Marsland is based in Chinley which is so much nearer to you and you are sure of getting a shinny bright undamaged one, at the same price or even maybe a bit cheaper if you ask

That's plus VAT and not free delivery! Same price direct from marsland, and if you are in Manchester, it's just down the road, easier and cheaper to go and pick up yourself 2015 RRS Autobiography SDV6

Yeah i will check up on this but i bought a series 3 chassis a few years back ok we had to collect it our self's from paddocks but it was a lot cheaper than buying direct from marslands.

as reguards free delivery the 2.5TD / 200TDI chassis doesn't say if it is or not free delivery but all the other later defender chassis say they are not free delivery but even if it asn't free delivery we can pick it up anyway by borrowing a mates trailer so won't be a problem but as i said we will look into marslands as they are half the distance away Very Happy Graham

Factor in your fuel costs going to Paddocks, the route you would take has some nasty climbs and wicked bends especially if you get behind a slow moving HGV which always seems too happen on that road over the moors to Matlock

I rebuilt my 300tdi 3 years ago with a new galv chassis from marshlands. Top quality chassis and they delivered direct to me.

Loved rebuilding it and is so satisfying to do.

Yeah i am quite looking forward to doing it now as before i decided to buy a 90 i didn't really want to be doing another chassis up re-build but after finding a couple of holes in the chassis and realizing the rest of the car being ok i decided to bit the bullet and do it, no worries after its done Very Happy Graham

Looking forward to seeing the rebuild pics when you start Thumbs Up

I helped a friend fit a Marsland chassis a few years ago and we were very impressed with the quality of it. The adjustable rear tub bar helps a lot with body alignment.

I have recently finished fitting a Richards chassis to mine and was very impressed also. They modified a few bits prior to galvanising it and knocked off the VAT/Delivery if I collected myself and paid in cash...it worked out surprisingly cheap!

I would make a suggestion I would buy another front axle too and the suspension parts so you can make a ready rolling chassis before you take your current Landy apart.

This save you a lot off space and probably work moving parts around.
I had some space when I did my first 90 a long time ago. Whistle

Yeah i understand what you are saying but can't afford to do everything all at once so doing most of the work first like refurb the axles and replace the suspension first whilst keeping the 90 still on the road then once we can buy the chassis we can the jump on it.

good idea though Thumbs Up Graham

Everything is more or less done underneath now sorry its taken so long been working round son using the 90 for work and our days off being different to each other but now son has his car back on the road its made life a lot easier now so hopefully in the next few months we will have a new galv chassis and start doing the re-build Very Happy Graham
