2006 Defender 90 Td5 Black LE Java Black

coolant draining

Planning to change coolant soon but have researched this and ended up with numerous versions of how to do this. Unfortunately, this has confused me so;

how do you drain the coolant without having to remove the alternator?
can someone post pics of each step (I know I might be asking alot

)
do I have to disconnect the thermostat?

Most of the posts I have read suggest I may only get 5-6 litres if I don't remove the alternator

Would removing the small pipe at the front left of the radiator at the bottom do it? 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

What I have established is by removing the lower pipe to the radiator will drain 2/3rds of the coolant. Stupidly the engine block drain is apparently behind the alternator which means removing the ancillary belt and then alternator which is a pain. I was wondering if there is another option which works well?

Are you trying to retain the coolant?

If not, the way I would do it, would be to do several plain water flushes to remove coolant in the block, then refill with proper coolant.
