no power

Hi All
My TD5 defender has started to perform a new trick, and I was hoping someone could offer a diagnosis please..
Quite often after stopping and restarting engine, and especially when starting from cold, the engine runs for quite a few minutes at greatly reduced power, probably less then half power.
it doesn't always do this, but it seems to be doing it more and more regularly.

My gut feeling is that it is possibly a sensor playing up....?! But i could well be wrong.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this?

We could theorise all day, every day on what you've given us. As a starter EGR valve or oil in the injector loom. Search for both and that may give you a pointer.
If it's regular enough playing up head to your nearest independant and see what they have to say.

Hi K9F,
The egr has been removed and there is no oil in the loom...so at this stage I think it must be something else...

Try a few keywords in the search facility.

For example 'TD5 MAF' reveals 78 threads many with symptoms not unlike yours.....

Have you tried unplugging the maf sensor? I had a p38 which had a faulty maf sensor and monumental power loss which i could not track down(loss of power>more throttle=more power loss). The theory being the ecu goes to default setting when it cannot see the maf signal..... Range Rover p38 4.6 99 lpg(gone

another one here for maf sensor had same syptoms replaced maf sensor and all running sweet again

Have you checked the full pump is pressurising the system correctly, have seen similarly symptoms when the pump is on its way out.
