Great, I encourage this change. It will only make our current Defenders even more of an icon with a 67 year history. Seriously doubt that the next one will last that long before being replaced again.
Nobody here bothers to look up when a modern Disco, RRS, FFRR or Eewok rolls by, but oh my, when a Defender is in sight, they all stretch their neck. Laughing
I am holding on to what I have now and intend to continue to take care of it for the next generation. Cool
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

I happen to agree. I think that at least some of the regular contributors who have recently bought new vehicles would have been invited along, I only live half an hour or so from Stoneleigh myself. 2011 110 USW

^^I think Steve bull and jim4244 got the below put on their mouth by Land Rover there. Rolling with laughter

Now, looking that the title of this thread reads "New defender market research day" probably holds the answer. Our two members have probably not seen any definite new Defender yet, and Land Rover are still doing what is written in that title.

I would say, SEEING IS BELIEVING Exclamation Laughing You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Let me assure you that nobody puts words in my mouth......

I had a 110 XS on loan from my dealership for a couple of days earlier this year. This was to see if my wife and I could use one as a third vehicle.

I found it slow in traffic with an unacceptable turning circle. It lacked safety features that we take for granted on other vehicles and there was no feel to the steering. I actually walked away quite disappointed as I had always fancied a 110.

If you like your current Defenders then good for you! I drove various LR's for 9 years whilst in the military so have some fond memories of 90's and 110's. Yes, I hope that your cars will increase in value and that nobody steals the bonnets, doors or entire car. However, in its current form, I personally could and would not live with a Defender as an everyday car.

I came on here today to give you a heads up on the Defender replacement, but nobody appears that interested.

If any of you pop over to the RRS forum you will see that I am an established member there.

Adios amigos, and may you have many, if uncomfortable, hours of fun in your Defenders Thumbs Up

Jim

Or you could tell us which pictures this new vehicle looks like because contrary to your suggestion this topic seems to have generated quite a bit of interest.

Obviously were all interested or there wouldnt be a whole section on here.
By the sounds of your post though its just a DC100? In my mind (purely personal opinion) that isnt a defender replacement, just another range rover type product for a different market sector. No offence intended but by your post of it its more a car for people who want a defender but just a car as you describe yourself which dont go hand in hand. I use mine for work, admittedly not like some on here or utility type companies and put up with the issues as it has a rough charm about it.
By the sounds of it though the range rover sport and freelander forums are going to be more excited by the news than I for one am along with many others id guess Thumbs Up Defender puma dormobile camper

It's probably because what JLR are showing isn't a Defender replacement. The Defender/Land Rover is getting the chop. End of!

JLR are just using this as an opportunity to launch their latest RR/Disco derivative.

I've been fortunate to own every model from new but that has always filtered down from my love of my first car, a beaten up, bomb proof SIII. Not any more. The diminishing heritage link has petered out for me. I'll always own Land Rovers but they've all been built now. My money will be used for maintaining and restoring. No more for JLR.

Please feel free to move to "grumpy old man" thread Thumbs Up He who dies with the most toys...wins!

I agree
I have owned land rovers all my driving life and my dad had land rovers before that , mine now is looked after and hope to have it for a while yet
but I find myself now thinking what make do I replace it with ,I've never looked a different make to own before
I don't think I would even want a new defender now , land rover seem to be cutting corners and on the forum I read about problems the bit older one never had
I remember when rover were stopping the proper mini , they seemed to not care and churned out some real cr@p
will the workers do good work on the last defender ?
will the main dealer worker want to work on them ? , having to strip a front hub to do discs and pads or just fit a disc over the hub like the other models

I looked at a brand new unregistered defender at royal Cornwall show , rust on the welds on chassis , rear crossmember faded really bad looked terrible , couldnt see any rustproofing

If the guy drove 110's in the military for 9 years why did it come as a surprise driving one of the more recent 110's.

Or is he trying to say that military 110s have great turning circles and comfort

I think the guy is perhaps not as genuine as he would like us to think.

Very strange attitude, start a thread saying you have seen something that you cannot tell us about, then say we are not interested enough then sign off with a unnecessary comment.

I find my defender very comfortable and will be like a pig in **** when I get the new one with premium seats.

Thinking about it, how strange that LR invite a RR owner to assess a new defender.
