235/85R16s will fit wolf rims, mine came from the factory like that.
My Goodyear Wranglers are marked M+S which is mud and snow. Never had any problem with them in winter. I think any MT or AT tyre would be perfectly sufficient for what you want. 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |

Check your insurance: mine wanted £20 admin fee each time I swapped from Alloy to Steel (so £40 a year).
Don't need to do that too may times before it makes sense to buy a second set of Boosts... especially if you can find a good secondhand set. Incidentally, in spite of what's been posted by others, I wouldn't suggest running winters in the summer. I did it once on a saloon and although wear rates seemed reasonable and everything looked fine, the fronts started delaminating on the inner edge after just a few thousand miles!  Only spotted when I had it up on a ramp but was very glad I did. |

Thanks for all the replies. Really appreciate the help. Had not thought of insurance shenanigans but given the hassle with motorbike mods it's real food for thought. The idea of 2nd set of Boosts hadn't occurred to me, makes sense...get the impression these aren't liked by some, I really like mine. To my embarrassment I hadn't registered alloys and steels need different nuts.
Key thing for me here is I am self employed and my work is rural. If I can't travel I don't earn. Last winter was easy here but the previous two made travel treacherous.....I have slid sideways from a crawl on icy cambers, and entered hills clear of snow a the top that sees the sun only to enter snow and ice half way down the hill in the shade, in these situations there seems little option but to tough it out and carry on. This is amongst the reasons why I bought my 90 I have never bought dedicated winter tyres before but my experience in 4x4 so far is icy slopes are a lot harder to stop on than the pulling away bit. Ridiculous, especially if you swap tyres more frequently that just winter/non-winter! I suspect that that was an administration fee for updating your records. I have always taken the approach that at proposal time I clearly state that "the vehicle runs either on these wheels and tyres or those wheels and tyres according to conditions and suitability". If an insurance company doesn't like this (and I have never had it questioned) then they can tell me. I then see no need specifically to tell them each time I swap over. |
