In my opinion yes, but the set up I have is OTT for a defender. It does drown out everything else, so road noise and wife no longer a problem. I think to get the best out components, a proper sub is the way to go, and then you will need an Amp for that alone. A good ICE shop IMO is the place to start. Hear different set ups, plenty of free advice and build a system for your ear.Small steps is the way forward, don't just buy a system off the shelf. Add 1 piece at a time, then you can hear the benefit, and discover what else you need to improve. Budget is another factor. As your probably aware manufacturers bring out a range, starting with your extra value to the 'bells and whistles'. Sticking to mid range price stuff will usually mean you can hear the difference over a period of time as opposed to a few minutes. Stick with brands such as Alpine ,Kenwood, Focal, for head units, speakers amps etc, although for subs, American stuff is usually good. IMO cheap Chinese copies is cheap for a reason, and I don't rate In phase either. It can be a bottomless pit Rolling Eyes Hope that helps a bit

Thumbs Up spot on, nice setup mate. I'm running my focals through a separate amp and have a another amp running the sub in the back Thumbs Up

There is a good 100amp output of the alternator to play with at least. That is quite a lot seeing as a lot of cars have just an 80A alternator.
It does have higher output than that too but you'd be really stressing it then especially with lights on (incandescent) and needing the battery to charge too.

If you want multiple Amps IMO it's best to daisy chain them too so everything works in sync better, otherwise it'll be hell setting all of it up well.
