Hi folks, I know that we're a mixed bunch on here so hopefully someone has some knowledge on jet skis.
We're looking to get a jetski as the rib we have is great but not launchable by one person and can't be left on the sand while you pop ashore for a drink or whatever. Budget isn't really a big issue, would like to get a good one that will last and can take say 3 people or maybe more and could nip along the coast so needs to be 'seaworthy' if that word fits! Picture the VW golf of jet skis, solid reliable and sensible. Don't want to set the water speed record and probably as quiet and economical and generally dependable as possible. Don't suppose diesel jet skis exist haha? Needs to be launchable on your own and pushable on the sand, though, so not ludicrously heavy. Anyone had any good experiences? Any brands to recommend? seadoo make some nice ones , I looked at there 280hp one lovely machine
had lots of boats and found them time consuming I fancied a small boat / big jet ski to put in Cornish coast and go round seeing the bits you cant get to without a days walk |

Dont do it David!
You'll be the  of the sea, no one will ever wave at you again and only want you to clear off as even going slowly even the noise is a pain.
Truthfully though theres not many advantages to them (I cant think of one) just look for a smaller rib which will be much more usable. Maybe a zapcat if you want a bit of fun, plus light and cheaper to get services on. Im not alone in my hatred though theres a reason there refused launching in many harbours and no diesel ones im aware of  Defender puma dormobile camper |

Not the biggest fan of the 'jet ski mob' either, but it's just much easier to handle on the beach on my own than our rib.

Haha the above is Defo the concensuse of jet-skis
I have been brought up on boats, yachts and power.. So I understand how jet-ski get a bad press! But for the last 6yrs have been working at a marine engineering company servicing and repairing boats and jet-skis.. I think in the right hands skis offer very fast, powerful, compact, safer and seriously fun water toys.. Repair bills can be ridiculously pricy tho if neglected.. Only buy yamaha or seadoo.. I had a Yamaha superjet standup, race tuned etc

As a Defender owner you would love the subtleties of sailing, learn the knots, learn wind direction by feeling and turning your head. Tip a boat and stand on the daggerboard to get it right. Get the sheets just right for speed.
Varnish the decks, fold the sails. It's all analogue and very Defenderish It's not fast or easy but very visceral. Buy a Jet Ski, get an X5 with 22inch spinners to tow it  |
