2008 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Java Black
Gearbox oil on 2008
Evening

I serviced my car and done all the fluids. On draining the gear box the fluid was red like ATF fluid. The fluid was not that dirty but I am a little baffled why it's red unlik the golden castrol syntrans oil I just put back in


So do they do the correct grade in red or was it the wrong stuff. It does seam 100 times better to drive now

Sounds like it had the wrong oil in it. I put red ATF in my discovery auto gearbox, certainly not a manual. If it feels better you should be ok. 130 crew cab

Just done my 2011 that was clean and red as well (only 11k miles) , I would not worry it is probably just the brand Land Rover use at the factory DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I also had this and questioned the garage that had put it in and they confirmed it was the correct oil and they had questioned the supplier when it arrived as they thought it was incorrect. 2008 Defender 110 XS CSW

It used to be so simple changing oils but these days with the choices available you obviously can't judge by the colour any more. Smile 130 crew cab
