Wading preparation
If I'm making running over Salisbury plain in the wet more of a regular occurrence, I dont have a snorkel yet.. But are there any other preparations I need to be making??? A Defender... Axle breathers transmission breathers and relocating your ecu, wouldn't be a bad shout cables are long enough to get them out of harms way Ed

Depends where you go on the plain.

There's not many places (legally) that you'll drown your vehicle. I went through a few deep ones yesterday, bonnet deep, but they were expectionally flooded. just a normal byway in a low lying bit of land, and the land hadn't drained away yet. The track was solid gravel underneath, so no erosion done there.

Give it a month or 2 and you'll not even know that the area I was in was even damp.

Another vehicle that was with me didn't have a snorkel fitted, and he made it through OK. although a few inches deeper and I reckon his air intake would have gulped a mouthfull.

My (Td5) ECU is in the standard place. Axle breathers are extended, but to be honest a standard vehicle will be just fine out there. I think I had about an eggcup amount of water come into my floor. I was quite amazed really as outside the water did gush over the bonnet.

There are no wading plugs on a td5 the bellhousing and timing case are sealed so no issue there, and I really only moved my ecu as I had my seat box out and saw it as an opportunity, also if you look on the front face of the cylinder head there's a black plastic plug, some come loose may wanna check its tight if not break out the silicone

Ah nice one, thanks for the replies..

Jim, yeah the plain has some cheeky places, have also made my td5 push through water or the bonnet! Was a little nerve racking to say the least! I just wanted to make sure that I wouldn't be getting water in any unwanted places it doing any avoidable damage.. A Defender...
