I fear it's too late now, too many mods on the landy. Plus the risk of a replacement giving even worse troubles!

What is weird is to me is the following: if it were the caster or something else in the suspension that is misalinged, then why does the landy track straight under braking? Surely even then it should pull left? But it is only under drive/coast that it does this, esp under drive, almost as if the right is getting more drive than the left.

It also does not explain why with the RTT + full camping load on the back the pull is almost non-existent? --

5mm spacer went onto the front left radius arm this morning. Very slight improvement. Suspension technician reckons that's as good as it's going to get without re-positioning the swivel.

Probably not worth it to correct 34' of caster difference, and also will void warranty. --

Naks.

This may a long shot, but could be the cause.Your steering drop arm, adjust it that the arm is more to the right than it is now, then lengthen the steering rod to get the wheels facing forward again.Don't worry about the steering wheel until finnished. The box may be trying to center itself causing the pulling.

I think I have it the correct for RH drive. The arm must be moved opposite to pulling direction. Puma 110 SW

To update you guys:

I noticed the other day that I can turn the steering wheel to the left 1+3/4 turns, but only 1+1/2 turns to the right. So I think the vehicle's steering is not centred but always turning left slightly.

My indie mech says this is caused by the steering rod being too long, and removing about 5mm on each side should do the trick. Will ask LR to check when I take it in tomorrow.

But at the moment the slow coolant leak is more troubling since I have a 5000km trip to Namibia coming up in 2 weeks' time! --

Hi all,

Three weeks later and some major work being done on Orxy.

First it was sent to 2 different panelbeaters for chassis measurements - both confirm that the chassis is not bent/misaligned. LR Stellenbosch also did further measurements on the suspension components, swivel pins and steering box as requested by the Regional Technical Manager.

The latter has now told them to replace the whole front axle with a brand new one, we'll see if this resolves the issue.

The workshop manager has been test-driving Orxy during this time and even he is complaining about having to work hard to keep it going straight on the road! --

Are they checking/comparing the radius arms, their mounts on chassis, panhard, steering bar etc?

any shop dedicated to chassis and driveline geometry should detect the problem right away.

good luck

Looks like they've measured every component in that front axle, or so they tell me. --

But they measured the chassis and found it to be 20mm too long, then had it re-measures and it was FINE! so i'd be very suspect of anything you get told by them.

I'd demand a replacement. Whether it's been a year or not... they have been stringing you out (although I must say, some of this blame must rest on your shoulders for accepting it... you shoudl have got it changed or demanded better service from the outset)

Fine as in all measurements are within specs. And yes, we should have pursued this aggressively since Day 1. Neutral --

Mine pulled to the left, but only when I had the standard tyres fitted. When I fitted my winter tyres (KM2s on boost alloys), the problem went. I have played around with the tyre placement and have found that in the position they are now, the steering is neutral with the standard tyres on. I can’t find any explanation for this, but it has cured the problem – this is despite extensive work by the stealership.

So you might want to try this, it won’t cost anything apart from a bit of hard work (are those tyres heavy!).
