Driving Lights Wiring
Can anyone shed any light for me please? I'm wiring a set of driving lights to my 90, and need to find a live feed thats meaty enough under the bonnet (so I don't have to go right back to the battery)....

I'm more than happy with the wiring of the relay/lights, etc, just don't have a wiring diagram to refer to. Anyone point me at a suitable cable to connect the relay feed to please??

By the way, they are a pair of 100W Wipac's.

Thanks guys Thumbs Up Mark

.....just to add, I was going to come off the feed to the starter motor, but it's a bit of a bu99er to get to, so anywhere other than there would be helpful. Thank you! Smile Mark

Recently wired up a set myself. Put the relay(s) one for each light under the driver's seat and ran the supply feed from the adjacent battery box under the passenger's seat. Easy peasy. Tapping off another circuit is a short cut and could compromise two circuits if something goes wrong. You also will be loading that shared circuit by another 8.5 amps dependant on how you wire it up!
Why take such a short cut on your pride and joy?

Cheers fellas, that's kind of what I thought Smile. Where's the best place to get the cable through into the cab from under the bonnet, do you think? I couldn't see anywhere too obvious earlier. Mark

Muddymarky,

I went from the front grille (facing the windscreen) left along the top of the radiator and followed the existing looms on the left hand side of the engine compartment then across the bulkhead about a third of the way from left to right!
I then crossed path to another loom that headed south under the vehicle and followed this all the way back to the grommet on the driver's side box under the seat. It was here I mounted two 30 amp fused 'Ring' relays replacing the 30 amp for 10 amp blade fuses.
Went from drivers side box also following existing looms to battery compartment under passenger seat.
At front of vehicle I also picked up the main beam tap for an independant switch on the dash to isolate the driving lamps on main beam to make it road and MOT legal (could have tapped into main beam supply behind dash but didn't want switch protected by 30 amps, by taking it from headlamp protected by 10 amps). I ran this with the two lamp supplies together in one loom. The main beam tap split from the driving lamp supply cables under the driver's seat and went to the dash switch from the switch I fed back under the carpets direct to the relay coils.
Hope this all makes sense. Took me a while but I am a perfectionist and heatshrunk and spiro wrapped all the cables for added protection and sourced the correct crimping tools for the relay base contacts and switch contacts. Go so far to say better and stronger than any aftermarket loom. Good luck!

PM me with your e-mail address and i'll send you a full set of diagrams in Adobe Format next week if you don't get another offer of them before. They're on my work computer and i'm off at the mo!

This may help a little.

Remember for two 100w light you will need a minimum of 16.7amp wire.

I son't have time to write all out again, I hope the link doesn't upset anyone (and not meant to).

£7 from the dealers and for a disco 2. To get 5 way plug on the back that plugs into it you have to buy the whole kit and that is over 100 quid so all I did is buy a second hand D2 HRW switch that came with the plug (the plug is the same, 5 pin but you use only 4) off eblag for £4.

HTH

ps I did somewhere have the part number but can't at this time find it, sorry

Boy
