The black finish on 1 of my side mirror arms is bubbling.
Whats the best way to deal with this? Rub down and paint? Replace with OEM unit? If replacing then you have to undo the hinge to undo the arm base - are the nuts holding the door hinge captive? and do you have to undo all 4? and will you have to reset door afterwards as at present the door shuts properly with no leaks etc:. Any advice much appreciated. ![]() ![]() Neighbourhood Watch for Land Rover Owners http://www.landywatch.co.uk/smf2/index.php |

Bulkhead side of the hinge is captive, well it's j-nuts so it's theoretically captive but I've had one let go before. Door side is not captive, you can see the nuts on the internal leading edge of the door just sticking out behind the door trim. The mirror arm is actually fixed through the centre of the hinge (it doesn't use the hinge bolts) so if you unbolt the door side you can fold the hinge back with the door closed and get at the screws that hold the mirror arm on. The door shouldn't drop as you're only removing one hinge, not both. I don't think you can get the hinge off with the door closed - you can't get at the nuts on the inside. If you've got some etch primer it's best to use it.
