Why relocate them? Kill them? They are vermin, reproducing at a hell of a rate and outnumbering humans by 3 to 1 in the developed world. Our rich diet is making rats grow to 2 feet long plus.
Cats and dogs are good rat killers. But If you DON'T have pets then poison is they way to go - but make sure you don't use it if you have pets. You'd never forgive yourself if they ate it by mistake.

This might be a bit over the top but when I used to work on farm equipment our workshop was plagued by rats and mice we did everything suggested here to get rid of them with varying degrees of success, even brought the cat in she had a great time chasing them around.

In the end we used metal cage traps and sheets of steel wired to the mains 240 v supply, it did cut down on the numbers but never cured the problem, you did have to be careful what you touched in the morning, as the kit was wired to the mains as well..... Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires.

ive had success with the battery electronic killer from screwfix, clean and no poison about , but its about 50 quid

use peanut butter on traps not something they can grab and run off like a bit of biscuit , make sure peanut butter is spread out a bit and stuck down on trap ,it makes them spend more time or more trips to trap and then more chase of trapping them

and peanut butter has a strong smell they love

change the butter every few days

Can you buy those glue traps there? I've used those things with great success previously, you put a bit of something tempting into the middle, they walk onto them and no way are they getting off that glue. Then you can use your axe (or whatever) once you find them. Supposedly there is a sedative in the glue to make them sleep/relaxed (!), but basically they only trap them, they don't kill them. So that part is down to the trapper...

Oh I don't like the sound of the Glue traps. I think they sound inhumane. They need to be killed quickly

Traps should really be attached to something, all our farm traps are tied to something heavy so the rats can't run off.

My parents (not where I work) have had a mouse trap disappear from a bathroom cupboard and then reappear in a bedroom on the other side of the house a few days later with a dead mouse in it. In the intervening days the dog was woofing madly at night so we reckon the mouse must have been dragging it under the floorboards.

Agree with you in the slugs/snails I keep seeing snail trails on the dining room carpet but never any slugs. I don't know if Bren brings them in with the wood for the fire or the cats bring them in on their fur but it is blooming annoying. I am half inclined to sprinkle salt on the carpet before I go to bed.

Barbara we have the same problem, the cats seem attracted to them and keep bringing them in a presents. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.
