In the process of buying a very high mileage Defender 130. Just wondering what was the highest mileage seen. My one is on a 65 plate and has covered over 200k
My first 110 was at 166k, six years old ( a 1989 ) and was pretty tired. The gearboxes, axles and driveline were all slack, but it had been used for heavy towing. The next was a very low 44k and was lovely and tight. The one after that was sat on 190k but was good, and my current one had 109k before I reconditioned it, but with so many new or rebuilt parts it drives very well although new drive flanges would now be beneficial.
My view is that it all depends on how it was used and how many new parts are on it, along with the quality of those parts. If it feels tight, not slack, then I can’t see the mileage as a problem, but it would depend on what engine I guess. Reading up on here, the newer ones don’t seem to last as well as the older ( td5 / tdi’s ) models.
Always a joker in the house! 200k is just about run in.
