I've just had mine replaced after 13months... It was just starting to show signs of rust coming through... To be fair the dealer replaced it whilst it was in for it's first service... It does seem alot to pay for what amounts to a 1hr job (or so) however, if there happy to replace it every year free of charge, you can't really complain!

Tim It doesn't matter how bad it is, It can always get worse...

I had a Bearmach replacement fitted last year. Had dinitol squirted into it. Bar cost £300.

Why another NAS bumper step? Protection! Also have a chunky agricultural size tow hook to fit.

Can you buy rear red LED DRLs? Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

Bit of a thread resurrection, but this seems to be the best thread on the subject...

I have been through the same dilemma, I opted for the dealer fit as this comes with a 3 year guarantee if dealer fitted to a new order vehicle Thumbs Up So when it goes bad I will get a new one under the warranty give by opting for said fitting.

I suppose this means two steps for the price of one, but there is also the hassle of taking the vehicle back- but then it will be back anyway for the mudflaps, headlamp bezels, side runners....

My recent quote was £575 fitted with electrics a further £153 for standard or £285 for 13 pin.

Is the Masai one (£360) any better than OEM? Their website states zinc plated galvanised steel? I do prefer the look of the treadplate finish but wonder about corrosion underneath.

At least with the OEM rubber tread can be lifted along the edges to squirt in acf50. The thin plate beneath on our 90 tends to corrode along the sharp edge.

Anyone have any experience of the Masai one?

Current best price for OEM style seems to be Flat dog at £306 Current Steeds:

I've got an official Land Rover dealership price to polish my new Defender and spray the upholstery with some protective coating for almost £1,000 - I was almost tempted to ask for the breakdown of materials and labour.

As my grandmother would say "A fool and his money are easily parted"!

Please don't. The products they use are shockingly Censored .

I would gladly do that for you for considerably less.

Also with out being funny. Some people clearly have too much money paying the prices they do for some of their stuff

I'm looking at one of these on eBay now and wondering how do I add a 2 inch reciever to this so I can add things like bike racks etc.?

Hello RouseyD

I agree with your questioning of this cost (600+) to fit a OEM LR Rear Step,
at that price it just doesn't feel right.

My standard rear step on a 1994 300tdi lasted 10 years before it corroded from the inside out and
needed replacing... it is possible to do better than the dealer price quoted, a lower standard part
cost can be found on-line, but the big saving to be made is to fit this yourself... a relativity simple job.

I have now fitted a NAS Rear Step to my 2010 90 and would make a couple of observations...

NAS Rear Step STC50269AA (270)

The NAS Step height is higher than the Standard LR Step.
The NAS Step (obviously) does not fold up out of the way.
If your departure angle (off road) is of real importance take a closer look at one fitted before buying.
The NAS Step standard plastic coating or epoxy powder coating finishes are ok but not really long lasting.
My NAS Step is 18 months old and will get a full strip and 2 part epoxy finish in the spring, the internal
tubing was rust protected before its initial fitting.
If you are considering a towing set up you are a step closer with a NAS Step.
This is an easy DIY fit for most.

So overall if DIY fitted the NAS Rear Step will be at least 1/2 the price of a LR fitted OEM Rear Step
