It all hinges on this

Hi all,

This is my first post on here, although I have been skulking around in the background for a while now, getting a feel for what goes on.

Am hugely impressed with the forum generally and I have already taken your advice regarding waxoyling and the excellent 'VW99' wiper relay mod.

My questions however concerns door hinges:

I'm looking to replace the hinge bolts for stainless steel and have already changed the hinge to body bolts on the drivers and passenger doors. However can anybody advise me whether the nuts that secure the hinge to door bolts are captive or not?
Am presuming that if they are not captive then I will need to remove the door card to get a spanner on the nuts?

Also regarding the tail door - are the nuts holding the lower hinge to the body captive or not? If not, how are they accessed as they seem to be buried somewhere in the wheel arch?

Am currently driving a 2010 CSW 90 XS although I have had both 300 TDi and TD5's before, but am not nearly as technical as I would like to be, hence this post.

Am based in north Essex, so anyone in the area feel free to get in touch.

Your driver and passenger doors are captive on the bulkhead but nut and bolt on the door. With the door fully open you can see the nuts in the inner edge of the door card. The rear passenger doors are not captive on the B pillar but the nuts are on a metal retainer. You can access them through a cut out behind the seat belts for the front seats. And again the nuts for the door bolts are in the inner edge of the door card.

I have developed a nack for removing hinges with out removing the door cqrd by slidong the. Nuts in the edge of the card.

Good luck with re hanging the doors after ive re hung mine 3 rimes and im still not happy with em!

Ignore my statemebt about rear doors I saw csw and assumed 110 lol

Any idea about the lower hinges on the rear door?

Are the nuts captive on the body for that or not?

Good question ive avoided rear doors due to my failings with side doors lol

No, the rear door nuts aren't captive. They're hidden behind the plastic flap that protects the back of the lower lights and towing electrics connector. Darren

The plastic flap that coverts the bolts is a

! Razor sharp on your hands.... I've the wounds to prove it! An engine to TDi for!

Here you go. This is a 110 but it'll be very similar on a 90.

This shows the inside back of the wing with the plastic panel removed, which is held in by a single screw into the spire nut to the right of the large grey connector. That connector is for the towing electrics. You can just see one of the hinge bolts below the thick conduit centre right of the picture. Changing them is going to be a two person job unless you're an orangutan.

Job now completed and all doors now have s/s pintorx security bolts fitted.
