Sunroof questions....
I'm deliberating over fitting a sunroof to my Td5 90.

Questions.....

Any recommendations on make or style?
Will I need a new headlining?
Do they all leak?!!

I've heard a few stories on water ingress and wondered if true

Two of my ninetys have had factory fitted sunroofs neither of which leaked, However condensation does form on the inside of them in cold weather which drips off when you go over a bump !

Current Ninety has no sunroof but headlining appears to have the shape of one moulded in to it which you could probably cut out. 2005 Td5 90 XS

I fitted a genuine sunroof to my 90 last year and it was easy. Just measure twice and cut once (both the roof and headlining) and then it is all striaght forward.

I used Sikaflex to seal the sunroof frame to the roof and I had had no leaks at all. You do get some condensation though when it is cold, but this soon goes as you get driving and it warms up.

I really like having the sun roof, and it is really good on cold days with the heater on but sunroof open a bit for fresh air and also this demists the interior super quick.

I have the factory fitted sunroof and it's perfect in every way, no leaking and no noise when moving a speed.. only one exception.. I can't turn left in the winter as the condensation drips off directly on either my head or gentlemen area. If a passenger is on-board, can't turn at all. I currently keep a cloth next to the hand held window wiper to dry it before journeys Thumbs Up

You need to get out more Rolling Eyes Wink I would have said she had a very mild accent there... for Essex.... Not much of one at all! Her voice was ok, good diction and inflection.... No problem to listen to for me....

Ah, the diversity of Defender ownership - I've just had my factory one removed, plated over and the whole roof seam sealed!

After five years of getting leaked on, condensated on, and having to remove the seat base every time I leave the vehicle in case it rains the seat gets soaked, it is bliss!

So as you might expect, I'm in the "don't do it" camp Laughing Fully Restored 89 110 CSW V8

@ Pam, after entering the world in deepest Gloucestershire, moving to Warwickshire where they mostly speak the Queens English and now living in 'Yerefud I've been subjected to some of the countrys softer accents. That womans voice sounds like a castrated alien on helium Whistle

Thanks for the above replies, looks like it's about 50/50 at the moment, I don't want to do it and regret it, I think I'll leave it for now but thanks again.

I have a factory sunroof fitted to my 2002 110 and I love the extra light it lets in to the cab. As with a few others mine does not leak at all, but in cold weather it does provide the perfect surface for condensation to form on. Depending on how cold it is depends on whether you get dripped on or an icicle down the back of your neck. There is a strange satisfaction in the shrieks of your unprepared passengers... Whistle Whistle

I have found that it is a great idea to clean the seal once a year, just before winter, and apply some silicone spray to the seal. I do the same for the door seals as well and have not had any significant freezing related tearing since doing it.

Hi,
I was told the current webasto 300 is a lot better compare to the older version.
An experienced installer and regular maintenance (once a year?) should be trouble free?
I'm considering...still 50-50...

Thanks again for the replies, so....

If I had a fairly simple tinted glass sunroof that was able to tilt open, nothing electric or fancy, would I be able to use the headlining I have at the moment?

If it is condensation, then having a de-humidifier in the vehicle may have a significant effect.
